1968 Bucket Seats

I pulled these out of a recent acquisition. I am looking for input. They are out of a 1968 Cutlass S. The car appears to be original. Bucket Seats, Column Shift. I can't find the build sheet.
Big Question: Did the 1968 Cutlass have an option for Bucket seats with headrest?

These look original and the front and rear seats match perfectly. And it looks like an Oldsmobile pattern for 1968.

With the side button release, they are definitely '68 seats, and there were headrest options already in '67, I'm not sure about '66. I can't say for sure if those are the correct '68 headrests.

Headrests were an option in '68 and those look like the correct headrests for bucket seats that year. My niece has a '68 with the same color interior and her buckets have the optional headrests. The option code was either A81 (dual front head restraints for bucket seats) or A82 (dual front head restraints for a bench seat). Headrests became standard starting in model year 1969.

This is interesting. A couple weeks ago I met a guy with a fairly recently purchased '68 and he was wanting to upgrade various safety items on his car and asked if it would be possible to add headrests. Does anyone know if the optional '68 headrests are the same as another year, such as '67 or '69?

I think the serrated track on the side of the posts is 90 degrees different in 68 than 69.

I was buying headrest releases for my seats from Fusick years ago and they asked me if my seats were truly 68 seats (They are not, I used 69 seats and covered them in a 68 pattern). When I told them they were 69's they said that there was a difference. Now the only thing I'm not 100% sure about is if the difference is 68 to 69 or 69 to 70-72 or all of the above. I looked at a Fusick catalog I have and they don't sell them for 68 and it looks like the release for the 69's are 180 degrees to the 70-72's

edit:

I just dug through my pics of my seat rebuild and here are my 69 seat releases:

I think they are except the 67 seat back is metal. I didn't include anything about 67's in my response above because I don't know anything about them

I've wondered about '68 headrests too as I've toyed with the idea of adding them when I do my seats. I've never seen them in person.

I think you're right. I've done some research and it looks like the '68 may use the 'no button' latch (ala '67) where there's just a spring in the post socket that fits in the serrations on the post. You'd just grab the headrest and pull up/down. The serrations are a more sawtooth shape than the notch serrations on the later years.

Olds442redberet, I'd love to see some close up pics of the posts & latch assembly!

When you remove the seatback, you will see the place where two black plastic tubes should be mounted inside the seat to guide the posts of the head rests. These tubes will have to be sourced if the seat did not have headrests originally. The tubes also have a flange on the top where they fit under the seat fabric.
