My Friend I can remember Green Hornet twice
Lil Abner
Nancy [along with Slugo and Rolo and an aunt who hasn't aged a bit in 50 years.
Mark Trail
The Phantom
B.C [who invented the Wheel]
Andy Capp [my kind of fella]
Dennis the Menace
Beetle Baily [that still runs]
Dondi
And of course dedication should go to Charles Shultz who [even though he has gone home to glory ] still makes a over a million a year on my beloved
Peanuts
Dagwood has been around a long time too.
If I win, jes send me the tri carb manifold, I'll pay the postage
The funniest one I have ever seen was Calvin and Hobbes when Opus was being screamed at by the girl and she said, " I think you need to take a long hard look at what has meaning in life. And Opus is looking in his pants.
Does anyone still have a cc of that?

I think it is kind of a shame that people have hi-jacked the Calvin character for those vulgar "**** on" stickers. I hate those things, and those big "*********" guys hang from the receiver on their trucks.

Alley Op. I know some of you guys remember the song from the 60's. Dick Tracy was my favorite. I loved Beetle Bailey and still read Blondie (sorry guys, it ain't Dagwood) and Dennis The Menace. I do not remember Pogo.
Good thread.

I can do better than that. How about:
Terry and the Pirates
Mandrake the Magician
Great adventure serial comics that were in the Saturday afternoon edition paper when I was a kid in the 60s, along with the Phantom.
Alley Oop and Li'l Abner are still some of the best satiric comics ever penned.
BTW- Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County (feat. Opus Croakus, rhythm tuba player for Deathtongue) were two different strips, and rank very high on my list. When Berke Breathed was taking on the Bakker religious sham empire and Mary Kay Cosmetics, I was rolling in the floor every day of my life.

Opus
Jamesbo, If you go to Berkeley Breathed's website, you can buy a lithograph of that very strip you mention--he even draws a pencil sketch of one of the character's on it for you.
Mine has Bill the Cat
I keep it on the wall in my home office.

Some of my favorites were also BC, Beetle Bailey, and of course, Peanuts.
Another, not mentioned here, is Broom Hilda .
My mom was a true Broom Hilda fan... Rather than "blood & guts Charlie, Hilda preferred to be known as "beer & cigars witch"...
I have the bound comic strip collection sets for all of these that I pull out and read sometimes. I like the quality of humor back then...

Dondi
Dondi was my childhood comic hero and I'm in deep despair over this, what happened to the world?
I can't be the only one that noticed the uncanny resemblance, he must have changed his name, Milorad...Dondi?, the names sound too much like each other for it to be purely coincidental.
This is not meant to be political so I hope no forum rules are violated, just want to express compassion for an old friend of sorts.
The overbearing father who adopted him is the real problem, it's not his fault.
He wants to return to his beloved Italian homeland first, so sad.
Excuse me...my tears are making it difficult to type...........
Say it ain't so Dondi!... just say it ain't so......
