watch whats happening in your state

The Governor (Washington State) was re-elected and her main stand was no new taxes and cut government spending. Well one of the first acts for her legislature is to impose a engine displacement fee on car license it works as follows up to 1.9 liters $0, 2.0 to 2.9 $70, 3.0 to 3.9 $225, 4.0 to 4.9 $275, 5.0 to 5.9 $325, 6.0 to 7.9 $400, and 8. and over $600. All this to incourage the masses to get rid of their older V8's so they say, to me its just another tax. For the car nut (like myself) this is a big hit. 1 at $225, 1 at $275, 2 at $400, 1-$600 thats a total of $1900 a year. Tell me how this helps people in a struggling economy.

Glad I don't live there! My 7.5 liter 455 would cost too much to register , luckily here it is registered as an antique which costs less and insurance is cheaper cause she sees no snow or salty roads , which takes up 6 months up here.

I think that comes out to 488 cubic inches + or - a little. I don't know if a 455 can be modified to that size but Pat probably has an old Cadillac engine, what is it 512?

I can't because I see it the way you do. That is really terrible news for us and our hobby.

I'm surprised SEMA hasn't gotten involved.

While sucky any way you look at it, I can only see it used when a new (or newer used) vehicle is purchased.
I cannot see it applied to collectible, classic, and specialty cars.

Of course I tend to think too logical and often place too much faith in our elected officials... I am interested to see the outcome of this.

Just proves that a politician will say and do anything to get elected, if it means blatantly lying.

The trouble with a lot of these people is they live in a world far removed from reality, they have agendas, and they can't understand that not everyone shares their agenda or myopic view of utopia.

Damned idiots as far as I'm concerned. The left coast seems to have a disproportionate share of them relative to the population.

I cannot see it applied to collectible, classic, and specialty cars.
Rob, if there's a perceived revenue source, they will find a way. We just went thru that shat last year in VA when they jacked up the antique registration fees by 500%. Official reason? to reduce abuse of the plates. Real reason? Revenue. The revenue projections attached to the bill were in the millions of dollars.

At least the State Representative who sponsored and pushed it realised he might have pushed the old car folks too far. He came within 2% margin of losing his House seat, and he knows the old car people had a hand in that.

I guess he thought we'd roll over and play dead.

Time to put some NAAS on some 1.8 liters for our speed fix. Oh what fun the future is shaping to be.

Very true indeed. Like I said, I think too logically and sometimes deny that we have crooked EOs trying to get our money... The truth hurts.

It makes people spend, spend, spend, whether they have the money or not. Govt & big businesses (like utility co's) know how to extract more money from our bloody fingers, and they do so. Us as the people, are at the disadvantage - powerless...
This economy issue is so circular and wound up I cannot even figure out what the solution could be... We need to spend but with WHAT?
I give up and will just mind my own business now.
No more politics...

Pat, glad to hear it died.

Ahhh but that is exactly what they want! If they can get everyone to not care then they really can do anything they want, then it's called communism.

I give up blabbing about it on the forum, that is what I meant.
Just abiding by the rules...

As for sending my comments to our political "officials", I certainly do my part, regardless how little it would work anyway...
Everyone should do this and let them know how we all feel. We should never give up without a fight.

Keep up the good work with email/writing and calling them. They (officials) use strange math, if you call, or write they consider that 100 people are on the issue. The key is to voice your side often and I like to believe they hear it.
The other day at work, an "older" employee said, "There is nothing we can do about it now." I replied, "That attitude is what got us here." I thought she was going to stab me with her fork. She screamed at me and said, "What do YOU think we should do then?? Huh??" I said comely, "Write your Representative."

Yeah.... nothing we can do my foot.
Why have people become such worthless slugs over the last 20 years? they don't even want to think for themselves anymore, like it's too much of a pain in their ***.
Seriously. I'm lucky to have a crowd of folks like you sticking up for what they believe in. I am 26 years old, and have a sinking feeling that yours and my grandkids are going to trade in all of our cars, guns, tools and farm deeds for government bags of Strychnine jelly beans.

As Norm noted, the Viper V10 (and the cast iron version used in Dodge trucks) is 488 - 8 liters. The largest Caddy motor was the 500. The new Chevy trucks offer an 8.1 liter engine that's 496 (and not to be confused with the crate 502).
