Well I bought a Oldsmobile Alero

Grand daughter just became a licensed driver and like all the other grand kids before we (my dad and I) bought them all their first car. Nothing special, fast or very sporty just a 2001 Alero 4 door. Privet party purchase, @ $2300 priced at what I feel was good for what the car was with a little over 100000 on the clock and a pristine interior, good paint, drove nice and was responsive. What more could a 17 year old ask for for free.

I know very little about the new Oldsmobile's so this is a first for me. Any major problems in these later cars ? The engine looks to be a Chevy- GM derivative of some kind hopefully parts will be available for a while , fingers crossed. ... Tedd

I am assuming that it's 3.4 liter? If so 2.8>3.1 were predecessors. Common issues 3.4 had intake gasket issues, which this car should have been done by now with better design gaskets? Passlock security issues, several sites have a step by step to by pass. 1999-2001 had problems with the hazard switch causing turn signal issues. Recalled? Rear defrost can malfunction, connector can melt down behind the C pillar.

The only engine options available for the 2001 Alero are the 2.4 L4 & 3.4 V6...

This unit is a V6, seems to be pretty peppy. hopefully the intake problems have been addressed.

A couple years ago I did buy a Intrique for grand daughter #2 but she totaled it in the first two weeks. Hardly even got a ride in it. Found out later she had seizures, lost the license and still can't drive a car, go figure.... Tedd

Congrats Tedd, usually they are pretty reliable cars. I was going to buy one earlier in the year but instead I ended up getting a super mint Intrepid for a little more money.
