Oldsmobile Cassettes
Anyone ever seen these before?
My Wife and I were at a thrift store today, she was looking at the cassettes because her car has a tape player in it, and we came across these. Some of the songs are better than others, but I had to get them. Paid 25 cents for the both of them. I thought it was pretty cool.

Yes, they were demo tapes that came with the car when new. They were placed in the glovebox for the original owner and well cello wrapped. I have 2 of them (cassettes) and an original working 8 track for my 72 for it's factory 8 track player. Each version of these tapes had different music that represented the year of production. Don't know when they stopped giving out the tapes, but I know they were still compliementary into 1984.
BTW, you did well to buy them at 25¢, they usually sell for up to $20.00

These seem to be from the early 1980s.
I couldn't pass them up, I would have paid a bit more for them. My Wife actually spotted the first one in a big cardboard box piled to the top with tapes. The second one was a bit deeper in the pile.
Amazing they sell for up to $20.

Actually, the 8 tracks for the older models sell for up to 60.00! I got mine for only 35.00.....Still, it really adds to the cars provenance to have the factory tape in the 8 track at a show. Little details seem to make a difference when you have a car that looks largely like many of the others parked beside it, and people actually notice that - so do judges!

Makes me wonder what my 74 came with. It had no radio when I got it, but based on the size of the dash opening, it was just a radio. I currently have an AM radio out of a 1973 Delta 88 I found at a salvage yard in there.
I was impressed the 74 came with its owners manual.

To all of you who posted on this thread, I just got this PM from a guest who read through our 'stuff'. She expresses her gratitude in the following quote from the PM she sent me.
I would whole heartedly like to than everyone that is posting for the Oldsmobile cassette tapes that came with the Olds. My family got one in the early 80's. My parents are those crazy fools that travelled over summer and made my life "terrible" during my teen years -- and I grew up to love all those cross country trips, fighting with my brother, and the sing along to that cassette bundle you posted. Of course, we talk about those cassettes often enough.
I've been searching over the years for mentions of what was on those tapes. This is the first that I've come across a list. Now, being Mom's day, Dad's bday, and Dad's day, I went and got an MP3 player, and I'm buying those songs to put on it so it can play in their Honda Pilot. (the website will not let me post to the forum, so you have my permission to post this if possible.)
Things may have changed over the years, but that music brought my family together and I'm glad that I can surprise my parents with this.
Tears of joy and all, thanks for the listing of those songs! Lisa

I think it was a 'Special Order' option, right? You know I'm not serious either, just stirring the pot that's all.
My 83 Regency Brougham came with one of those cassettes in the glove box because the car had an AM/FM Cassette stereo. I remember "Run for the Roses' used to sound so awesome on that stereo.....

Not serious? I thought they were legit questions...
In 1986, RPO code UN4 was for tape cartridge delete for export cars (since the songs on the tape were in English).
RPO code VH9 is for the folder that the owner's manual came in - I thought all cars would get them!
Now I wonder if anyone has the 8-track version of this tape... The four "programs" noted was a carryover from the 8 version, so they most likely existed in the early 80's.

Rob, I have one of the OEM 8 tracks. Took some looking to get one in decent shape though. The other cassettes were ones that I just bought on ebay for kicks. Can't play them in my Sonata or Cutlass because neither has a cassette player

Complimentary Olds Cassette or 8-track Tapes
Anyone who has any of these tapes who are willing to sell them or copy them please contact me. I am specifically looking for the one I got when I bought a 1980 Cutlass Supreme. Look forward to hearing from someone soon.

Here's what I have, neither is obviously new, but both of them play just fine. One has an issue date of 1982 and the other is 1985
Probably not the one you got in your 1980 Cutlass.

In the 85 442 I bought my wife new, the console had a cassette holder. I still have it. Probably would fit any G body with the console. Any offers? Also have the cassette but I re-recorded over it.

Still looking for Olds Cassettes
I am still looking for copies of the demo tapes that were provided when Olds vehicles were purchased. In particular, I received one in my 1980 Olds Cutlass Supreme and I simply wore the tape out. I would like to find one someone is willing to sell or provide me with a list of the songs and performers. I can be contacted by my user name on Facebook or at okdlm@yahoo.com. Hope to hear from someone soon.
