The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
For Christmas this year I refurbished and brought back to life a 120 year old hope chest for my youngest daughter and made a custom spice station for my middle daughter, feeling bag not having asked my oldest daughter what she would like me to do I asked her what would you like ! she said I would like you to re-do your mothers dressing table for me, ok I said , well its going to be a project !! it has no real value except that it was my mothers, she purchased it probably 40 years ago at a thrift shop it has 2 swing out arms that close to hide the chair under the table my mom adorned the arms with lace and painted it white. it's just pine.
Well let me explain , have any of you ever seen Flea Market Flip ? where they resurrect/ refurbish or reinvent flea market items,
I think this was one of their projects, I believe it started out life as something else ( don't know what) well I disassembled it to start stripping it and my belief is that while the inventor/hobbyist had great ideas but his skills or tools were limited its pretty cobbled up and will present a challenge but will keep me out of the chair, so this is how my day started, stripping and sanding , finally got down to wood !!! its going to get new gusseted supports routered edges new sides and a new bottom , and of course a new finish probably in a stained slate gray. Good morning !! Ill start again in the morning as soon as I don't think the neighbors wont be annoyed by the sound of power tools,I like to work on the patio when the weather is this nice !!

Hi Guys, (any gals on here?), yesterday a friend and I got our snowmobiles out and went about 40 miles. It was a great time First this year. He and another buddy have a 1998 Polaris Indy Trail Touring as I do..They are mostly identical, It's weird when we all go together -3 identical machines. Anyway we came upon a burnt out hulk on the state trail- quite a surprise! My friend said it was a ski doo and its the third incident he's seen of them burning up. Apparently the "parking brake" which is just a lever which locks the hand lever on, can be left on accidentally and drags. The rotor gets red hot which is next to a rubber gas line. The gas line melts, gas drips on hot rotor and there you go.... I'll try to post the pic...
Greg - Sounds like fun! Several families, including mine, around us had snowmobiles when I was growing up. The vast majority were Ski Doos, and every once in awhile you'd see an Arctic Cat. Our Ski Doo was bought used, an early 70's model, I don’t remember the model number or even how many CC's it was. What I can remember most is it was hard to start, with a pull starter, and it seemed to be broke about as much as it was running. I can't even imagine how much nicer the newer ones are, and how much more powerful!
My wifes uncle was a Chicago fireman a battalion chief, so he was very safety conscious about snow mobiling and boating (made me take a crash course on the machine and snow mobile safety) a day I will never forget !!
Hi everyone.
Good day at work. The washer broke for about an hour, and then we finished up early anyway. Two successful days in a row.
Norm don't shed too many tears over that movie. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, but there are parts that will leave you scratching your head. And I'm not a big fan of Mary Steamvirgin or Ted Danson for that matter.
One thing I've never done is ride a snowmobile. And coming from the Arctic North you'd think I would have. That one looks rather crispy.
Chris now I remember. Ya anything that guy posts I don't read. A total asshat.
Well I should find something to do. Might not do anything. Chances are supreme for that. Eh, I'll find something. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Dan, yeah I don't know who is going to have to remove the crispy machine. I heard when those things burn it's LOTS of smoke, This happened just off M18 so I'll bet lots of people saw it. I'm guessing the DNR will get it removed . Solly, you are right proper clothing makes all the difference. Problem is it's really expensive! I lucked out and found a leather 3XL suit at a garage sale for $40.00 ($4-500 new) and a used helmet for $75,00 ($200-300) on ebay. We don't trailer machines further north (like the serious snowmobilers do) so some years there is not much snow, so it's hard to justify spending huge bucks. Last year wasn't much snow so only rode about 150 miles- but year before lots of snow and rode 1300 miles!
I used to assist in towing burned hulks out of the desert (mostly National Forest land). Kinda cool with multiple Jeeps tied together like Santa's reindeer pulling his sleigh, only in this case 4WD Jeeps pulling a torched minivan or whatnot. We'd get it to Forest Service road so sheriff's department could run the VIN then have a tow truck haul it off. They were almost always stolen vehicles that were driven out into the desert, stripped, and then torched, so no wheels or anything useful like that for getting them out. Most times we'd roll them over and use the roof as a sled.

Hi everyone.
Sort of a BS day. We all got sent home at lunch today because one of the guys' dad has the croup, and this guy came into work Monday. Another guy who was in Monday called in sick yesterday and today so they assumed he has the croup. Now supposedly the whole shop is going to be deep cleaned this afternoon. I tell you what, with all the dirt and funk in the shop the croup is the least of which to worry about.
Johnny right you are!
Figured since I had a couple extra hours I'd go order some tires for the car. I've been saying I'm going to get tires for months now. Well, when my Mom had this car she smacked into the curb at the Post Office and killed the tire and bent the rim. The tire shop pounded out the rim and put on a new tire. Even after having the tires balanced the front end has a shake to it and I think the rim is still somewhat bent and I'm just going to get a new one. I won't be happy if I don't. So no new tires, still.
Beautiful out but I don't think it's going to last. It's chilly out but probably won't get much colder with rain on the way. Hm, might go retrieve some more dry firewood while I have the chance.
Okay hope everyone has a good evening.

I had a friend that towed for multiple jurisdictions once told me that the place for people and cars that didn't want to be found was Cleator !!!!
Good morning guys,
Cold (30) and gray this morning, but little chance of precip today. Went out and picked up my wife's next project yesterday, a desk and accompanying 2 drawer filing cabinet she is going to strip and refinish. Since her last several projects have turned out pretty well, she has decided she is going to start buying one or two pieces, refinishing them, and then reselling them. I told her to "go for it"!
I am uncomfortably settling in to the doldrums of winter here. As you get older you sure don't want to wish any time away, but I can't help being anxious for an early spring.
Hope you all have a great day!

Hi everyone.
Work went quick today. Yesterday when we left early there were already quite a few wheels in breakdown so add those to today and there weren't as many to break down today, which resulted in me leaving by 11. Surprised the heck out of me! But I'll take it. Haven't really done much aside from eat lunch with Tiger and then take a nap with him.
Chris my friend used to say the same thing. He hated work and would say he was wishing his life away by wanting the week to go quickly. I said nah it evens out, you wish the weekend to take longer. He's retired now and sits around watching TV all day. All the projects he said he wanted to work on in retirement just sit, he doesn't touch them.
Cold out and overcast. Rain is supposed to be today. Sure am glad tomorrow is Friday, though this week hasn't been too tough.
Well I've gone and done it. I've opened the box of Frango Mints. They will be gone in no time. Frango's are like crack. Once you get going you can't stop. They're wonderful. Haven't had them in quite awhile.

Beautiful dog, James. Chris I know what you mean about not wishing away your life, but with quarantining and cloudy weather,etc.... Mike, I hope your friend gets to his projects. Though I myself am in a slow time, I need to force myself to go over to barn and just start on truck again- usually once I get involved I stay interested.

Hi everyone.
Out by 11 again today and then to the Awful house. Saw a couple of guys and had a nice chat. Haven't done much this afternoon other than a few little things. Cold and rainy here.
Greg if I had an enclosed, warm place to work I would'nt have to force myself to go out there, I'd live there! One of the criteria for the new place is a shop that is totally within a fenced yard, so when I'm out there Tiger can be with me and also run in the yard.
No real plans for the weekend, it's not supposed to rain but it will still be cold. Not a fan of this time of year. At least we don't get a lot of snow. Sorry guys up north.
Okay time for something to eat. Tiger has had his supper already and I think I'll start the stove and curl up with a movie. Times past I might have had someone to go out with on a Friday night. Ah, well...
Have a good evening everyone.

Norm, I know what you mean about possible problems after medical test and how it can get your mind going. Last year on spring check up they said I had low Platelets. I had to come back for another test and it was still low so I was sent to a specialist. He checked it and said it was also low. So he asked if I drank and how much? I said maybe 5 oz a week. This was in July and when we have campfires I may drink that much in one night- but then again I may go 2-3 weeks with no alcohol at all. (Later my sister who is a nurse said most times if a doctor asks a person how much they drink, you can count on it being double what they say...They're embarrassed or whatever). So he probably thought I drank alot and asked me to come back in 3 months and abstain from alcohol. So I did. Then I looked on line and inquired about low platelets and was led to Leukemia!! That will scare the hell out of ya! Anyway, went back to him in October after no drinking for 90 days, and yep, still low. This time it was "Oh don't worry about it you are just a little low...?? So I dunno...
Well just got a new laptop and trying to get everything figured out. One thing though the hunt and pecking isn't any easier on this one!

Good morning guys,
Greg - WHY do some doctors do that??? Even if they suspect a problem why don't they start out with, Your platelet count is a little low, you might just have a low baseline, let's get it checked out??? No, they'd rather scare the hell out of you! Some have absolutely no bedside manner.
Cold this morning at 32 and not supposed to get above 35, but at least no precip in the forecast. I will be on dog duty most of the day. My wife will be down the street helping our elderly neighbor paint some interior rooms in their home. She won't be going it alone, she'll be painting with their 40ish neice. These are the same neighbors she cleans house for once a week because the wife is pretty much incapacitated with a bad shoulder. She would do it for free, but they insist on paying her handsomely.
NFL wildcard playoffs start today so there will be something I like on the boob tube while I'm letting dogs in and out, filling water bowls, and getting more food.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone.
Cold and grey out. If the sun would at least come out I have a couple things I'd like to do outside. If not, I'm staying in. I should light the stove. Last night I had some scrap wood and newspaper to get things going, then I took a big chunk o'wood and threw in there. It was sort of damp but to my surprise it caught right away and burned all evening. Almost like I had soaked it in gasoline. Now, I do a lot of dumb stuff but I wouldn't put gasoline in a wood stove. Wish I had more of those chunks.
Busy at the Awful house today. Sometimes I'm a little too patient there. The servers have this attitude, oh he comes here all the time he won't mind. So they won't refill my pop, they won't bring the bill, they won't take the dishes. They scurry around doing other things. I don't say much because if they are busy, heck, I'm not the only one in there. But it gets a little old. But with that comes a little clout. The rare occasions I do speak up they usually listen. I think it surprises them a little.
Okay time to do something. Have a good day everyone.
PS Happy Birthday Mr. B.

Chris - My medical practitioner's office employs Quest Diagnostics. A Quest medical lab technologist occupies/rents one office in the small building where they draw blood, urine, etc. for lab analysis - the analysis itself is performed offsite. The results are posted to my Quest patient portal.

Norm - I haven't seen a drop off in LabCorp here yet, but I really only use them once a year when I get my annual physical. Now that we can use Quest or LabCorp, I won't hesitate to give Quest a try if I start having any issues with LabCorp. It's nice to have choices!
Mike, my oldest brother was a regular at a mom and pop diner in his town. The staff & owner new him well. A couple of tatics that he employed to get his coffee refilled if service was slow, was to put his empty coffee cup on his head ( I have a picture) and the other was to call the kitchen on his cell phone, to let them know that he was empty. He got the number for the kitchen from one of the waitress's. After he passed, they had the after funeral luncheon there, and the owner picked up the tab. Very nice of him.
Dan that's funny. I have the number to the Awful house but trouble is they never answer the phone. Months ago when they were doing carry out only, I'd call and get a message that they were very busy. I'd drive over there and nary a person to be seen. Used to be a manager there that was afraid of me. He didn't know what the hell was going on and if I didn't like something I'd speak up. Not being a jerk, just bringing it to his attention. He'd start stuttering and then go in the back and not come back out. One time, I think it was Christmas Eve, he put the two weakest servers on the floor in the evening hours. The place was packed and the servers were wandering around like no one was there. The chef was pulling her hair out pleading with people to just be patient. I probably sat at the counter over an hour, it was actually entertaining though I felt bad for the chef. Just as I was leaving the manager came in, and I gave him an earful. Calm, just laid it all out. The look on his face was priceless.
Breaktime. The sun actually did come out and I've been down in the garage moving stuff around. Might even get rid of a few things. The garage is getting that hoarders look again, I need to clear a path from front to back.
Norm this big chunk of wood is most likely pine. There was a tree in the front yard that fell and the wood started getting this yellow crystal stuff on it. My neighbor said if I'd burn it the fire would go for days. Must have gotten a piece of that.
Okay back to work.

I have a chunk of wood that is saturated in resin that I use as a fire starter on campouts. Picked it up back in high school at one of our campsites and have been using small pieces of it since then.
Good morning everyone.
Beautiful out but cold. Well it is winter. Gonna check out a new junkyard today that is close to my house. It's actually been there a couple years but I have yet to go there. I don't know what I've been waiting for. Well today I'm looking for a wheel for the Saturn. This looks to be like a late model car place so maybe they'll have one.
I decided to forego the Awful house this morning and had cinnamon toast instead. But after the junkyard I think I'll take them in for lunch. I also need to go over to the shop so it will be like a little local triangle.
Well I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning guys,
Cold and overcast here. It's only 29 and only supposed to get to 33. Good news is we're headed towards some 50ish weather for a few days in the middle of the coming week. This warm up will coincide nicely with trying to get the 442 and my bikes out every 3-weeks or so.
Got an unplanned call late yesterday afternoon from my oldest daughter who recently moved. They were at Lowes purchasing a new washer/dryer set and called to ask if I could run up there and haul them so they could avoid the delivery charges. I obliged. They're much closer to us now, so it wasn't a real big deal, but it never ceases to amaze me how more often than not kids don't have a plan, even when it might require help from others. I love them to death, they are good parents and financially responsible, but planning is not always their strong suit.
Well, no big plans for today. Looks like more football is on tap this afternoon and evening. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hm, isn't that interesting. I never knew that was a thing. So what you're saying is I shouldn't be smoking when I walk out to the car when it's parked under a pine tree. The trees in my yard rain sap on the car and it becomes a giant piece of hard candy. Obviously I try not to park under the trees.
So I went to the Awful house first and saw my buddies and stayed there over two hours. Then I went to the shop to take pictures of the Metropolitans. A guy I saw on the internet is looking for one and I have a couple I could sell. Then I went to Walmart and decided to skip the junkyard. It's down the road from the shop so I can go anytime. I guess I always say that and that's why I don't go. Now it's almost time to start the wind-down process for work tomorrow.
And speaking of work, I'll be at my desk this week. Don't expect anything earth shattering to happen, and the weather is supposed to be nice, so maybe it will be a nice week.

Good morning guys,
Cold again here this morning at 29 right now, but it will get a little warmer today up to 38. Good news for Tue. - Thurs., sunny and 50's, should feel like the tropics!
No big plans for today. Think I'm going to ask my wife if she'd like to go hiking on one of the warmer days coming up just to get out of the house for awhile. Might be hard to drag her away now that she's focused on her new furniture project.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hi everyone.
Cold and rainy. I thought we were getting nice weather all week, but evidently we aren't. Well there's always tomorrow.
Busy day at work. I was at my desk, but since I signed off all the wheels last week in inspection, those wheels coming through had to be returned to service by someone else. So I took on the task of checking/correcting the contract wheels paperwork. I keep a list of what wheels I sign in inspection and by lunch all the wheels from last week ran out. So I started returning wheels, but still had to check contract paperwork. After lunch the guy from hardware came with a huge stack of yet another type of paperwork. It's not tough just time consuming. So I had three tasks going on at the same time. Talk about a star player. I hope that eases up a little tomorrow.
If any of you happen to know of a diesel VW Vanagon that runs and isn't priced stratospherically, let me know. Gas is starting to go up and so is diesel, but the diesel will get better mileage and I could use it as a truck as well for all but the most heavy jobs. I could add it to my wanted list at the bottom of my posts but I don't want to look like a car hoarder.
So Monday is over, and we are well into the week. Doesn't look like a bad one. Time to start winding down for the evening. A quick bite and a little TV and then it's off to bed. Hope everyone has a good evening.
