Mornin all.

Darrell, I feel for you. Just so you know they are forecasting a high of 72* here today.

Jamesbo, I hope your ***** don't get too wet. Wait.

Mike, is that due to the one neighbor that's not so neighborly? Didn't you have one on one side that was a thorn?

Have a day all.

Morning Rocketeers

Trip to de leeching farm at 8:30 then off to Costco at 10:00.

Mike, why not? It's not brown or anything. I don't understand why you wouldn't change the fluid, it's not expensive. Edit: the trans shifts fine, same as it always used to. Wondering if maybe the filter is restricted.

Darrell, hope you survive that storm ok. Sounds nasty.

Clint, Jim plays with soggy ***** a lot lately, so he says. Your turn.

Dan, almost 51 meelyun now. I have 2 tiles that are over 1 meelyun each. Same game I've been playing since the summer with no restarts.

No koffee till after de leeching dammit! Enjoy your day.

Mernin', all...

Twas 43 at the Plantation... glad I'm away from all the stormin' and snowin' and such.

Deck is coated with elastomeric now, Jamesbo, so we oughtta' be in good shape. Really wantin' to get back up there, but the date keeps getting pushed out more. Might be March before we get there.

Spent almost two days getting some unneeded stuff pictured and posted up on C/L and eBay. Sold two things right away, which means I shoulda' axed more for them. But good to get rid of it and get a new home for things rather than letting them collect dust, and then somebody having to give or throw it away when I kick the bucket.

Y'all have a fantabulous Moon's day, Oldsmofriends.

Allen,
I am still looking for a beater. I have ruled out several vehicles
I am looking at one today, another one tomorrow, I found one yesterday i am trying to get more information - but it is 2 hours away.
I am debating a GM short bed extended cab full size truck from the 90's and a 1986 Bronco II are the lead of the best of the beaters.
My son ( also a driver) has his heart set on a Manual trans. one of the trucks is manual as is the bronco. He is 17 and wants a truck he was sad when I had to sell the suburban.

Jeff, as you know you also have to factor in the cost of insurance and operating. I know gas prices are down to affordable right now in the US but keep in mind that full size GM's are pigs on fuel, even with MT. Prices won't stay low forever. Lots of variables to consider aren't there?

What size vehicle does he really need? Is it just for bopping around town and to/from college? IMO, a small car would be a better choice unless he needs to carry kegs o beer, chords o firewood or gaggles o chics!

he had a small escort-
we are down to my focus. (2005 also Manual)

I want a good replacement for me and my 3 boys - I had to sell my suburban - due to life events. (that D word)

I would like to get a Truck for us to go on camping and other adventures and we need something we can all fit into. so the extended cab is the option in our limited price range. I eventually want to replace the trailer I have to sell due to the divorce ( I didn't much want it when we bought it but I was attempting to make her happy). and a truck suits us better long term than another gas sipper.

Jeff Suburbans are cheep around here. Relatively I guess. If I didn't have one already that I didn't drive I'd buy one for sure. Bronco II's aren't real stable in anything other than straight ahead driving.

Yes Clint the fence is because of the bad neighbor. I'd just put up a fence against his fence but I want to make absolutely certain that is the property line, because I know as soon as I dig the first hole he will start causing trouble. And how cool would it be to find out his fence is actually over the line.

Allan when the transmission fluid burns it messes up the friction surfaces and when you put new fluid in it makes everything slip. Maybe Clint can weigh in with a more technical explanation. If the current fluid isn't brown and the trans doesn't slip, what makes you think it's burnt? I think the only way to tell for sure is to taste it.

The Saturn hit 200K on the way home from the courthouse this morning. I had the camera with me so I stopped and took a picture. I actually got some good information this morning. Of course this was after I went through airport-style security and had to take my belt and shoes off. Glad I remembered to leave my pocket knife in the car.

Gonna work in the dogs' room this afternoon. Windy and cold out, no thanks.

Mornin', all... up at Zero-Dark to bring in the F-150 to my buddy so's he can take a look at the cruise control, which has not worked well for over 5 yrs. But now, when we're driving to GA, we need it to work perfectly. PITA - completely temperamental - works when it wants to - right now, about 50% of the time; but it seems to be on a downward trend.

43* at the Plantation, but spose to flirt w/ 70 this afternoon. Nice weather continues for next few days.

Been putting all kinds of goodies on eBay and CL to try and de-clutter. I know it's all precious and important, but ya' gotta draw the line. Pretty much giving it away as far as I'm concerned, but as I said, it's better than winding up in a landfill when I'm on the other side of the lawn. Sold my 15-y-o clamshell bed cover for the F-150 yesterday for $100. Short, sweet deal... this guy from Luling, LA, is a car "body guy" who's going to try and adapt it to his custom '55 Chibby p/u. Should be interesting, to say the least.

Darrell, you hanging in there? It's always worse when you're in it, but maybe not quite as bad as all the doomsayers predicted? Really, if everybody really paid attention to TWC, half the cars in the country would never leave the garages.

Anybody hear any news from Summit County, Ohio, from a certain TEEPO?

Whelpt, I hope Tiu smiles down upon the Oldsmofriends today.

Good morning everyone.

Looks like a stellar day, if not a little chilly. Might try my hand at putting down block today. If I can master this, I'll have a cinder block fortress.

Yesterday my neighbor said he was polishing under the hood of his Camaro and broke the wire going to the temp sending unit and did I have a connector to splice it back together. I said, that wire is very brittle, why don't we unwrap some of that tape on the harness and put in a new wire, so we can hide the splice. I was instantly sorry I suggested that because he thought I was going to do it right then, and was peeved when I said I had other things to do. Eh, his problem. I'll get to it.

Time for the Awful house. Have a good day everyone.

Mike that would be great if it were. also. thanks.

Darrell, Is it as bad as they predicted? Local reports were calling it the storm of the century, Made it sound like most of the population were gonna perish, and some even call it snowmageddon.

Gonna be in the 70's again.

Hey all. Hello from the great White North. We got about 22" of the white stuff, I think north of us got it much worse. Was outside shoveling and snow blowing my driveway and my neighbors too. Took about 4 hours, then I took a hot shower and a nap.

This is a lot but not as bad as 2 years ago when we got 32". As usual, the media overplayed it. There were pictures of gas stations here without gas, food shelves emptied all because of it.

On another note, my refridgerator started to act up on Saturday and by Sunday it was completely dead. It's 16 years old and it was probably going to cost more than its worth at this point. I went to an appliance store here, picked out a new one and it was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. Well, due to the weather, that didn't happen and I'll be lucky if its here by Thursday. So I have coolers on the back patio keeping everything fresh.

Allan, you'll be happy to know that it is a GE and not an LG. Was looking at Samsung refriderators and they are made in China. What? The Koreans can't make their own refridgerators? So I stayed away from them too.

There's good news and bad news with the pooch. The good news is that whatever his issue was with his stomach seems to be better. The bad news is I need to get rid of him. My daughters asthma has been really bad, so bad that she has been on steriods now since October. They did a blood panel on her and found that she is severerly allergic to dog dander. I think she has always been allergic to him but now it has gotten really bad. She can't stay on the steriods much longer. So, I have two choices: 1. Find another home for him, 2. Put him to sleep. I can't do #2, he has issues but is still otherwise fine for a 14 year old dog. I couldn't live with myself. My wife has been researching choice #1, supposedly there is an animal rescue outfit that finds homes for seniors like him. That has really been difficult to deal with and I hope we find something good for him.

I've been using the Intrepid since I bought it, it drives really nice. I'll have to take a picture and post it. Yes Clint, I guess I would make Lee Iacocca proud. It wasn't my first choice, I wanted to get a Buick Regal or Riviera from the 90's/early 2000's but could not find a decent one. It seems that most people just don't care about their cars and beat the living hell out of them.

Watching movies with the kids now, have to get ready for plenty of snow tubing tomorrow. Have a good night all.

WTH is everbody?

About 10 years ago [when I redid my farm kitchen] I put a deposit down for a guy to build me a wooden icebox kinda fridge but with new guts. So I needed a temp frige while that was going on. I bought a 100 dollar fridge from a tenant in a building we managed dat sold used appliances.

Well, De custom fridge maker never delivered and I got tired of try'in to rubber hose him [when he was in fact dead broke] anywho Dat 100 dolar fridge is like a Timex watch. "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking."

On de utter hand I got dis fancy dancy fridge at de lake dat cost more than my 1st car and it's a POS

Sandy,Clint, I joined dis castiron cooking FB group and after getting 50 e-mails and hour tried to stop"notification" and unjoin. I'm not a member anymore but am still getting e-mails Ya got any ideas on how to stop it? De got 150,000 members

Zo de warm spell,iz over.

Busy day yesterday but should be quieter today.

Darrell, even the new GE models I'm not too sure about. For now I bet you're using the garage to keep stuff cool.

Jeff, Escort and Focus both seem to be decent little beaters. Also check out the Elantra models. They seem to be very reliable and cheap to buy and run.

Mike, I'm not really sure it's burned. Checked it against new stuff and it's pretty close to the same. Still I don't like the whine from the trans. Maybe we'll just drive it till it craps out. IMO it's not worth fixing if it's a trans. BTW does your high Saturn have any rust on the passenger side rear door sill plate?

Clint, sending some snow and cool your way. I know 70 is way too warm for this time of year.

Okeley dokely Rocketeers, try to keep em between de gutters. Enjoy your day.

Morning all!

We have SUN this morning and its up to 19* right now after a start of 3 this morning. So nice to see the sun.

Not much going on. Brian is still being sneaky and whispering to Steve all the time. I can't stand to be around him anymore. I hate to see Clay move but I'm looking forward to getting out of this office and moving up front.

So my friend Marc sent Steve an email yesterday saying he was interested in applying for the sales job. Steve called Brian in this morning to look, and when I walked in with stuff for Steve I saw Marc's name on the emails. He told Brian that he would forward him a copy. It was really silent as Brian was reading it. Then he started typing, so I don't know who he was sending what to! I know because Marc is my friend and former boss that they won't hire him. Brian meets with that Steve McCoy this week for lunch - if he hasn't already. I'm sure he has the job already. Brian wants someone in here that HE can intimidate, not someone who intimidates him! Plus Steve M has no selling experience at all so Brian can clone him as he wants him. What a pity.

I told Clay yesterday that there is no reason to have such drama and secrets in anyplace with only 4 people! Whatever decisions the **** one makes will affect Clay and I too and our futures. Steve doesn't give a ****.... hes out of here and won't have to deal with what's left behind. Brian just gets off on 'I have a secret, neener neener neener' I guess. And Steve goes right along with it. I sure hope that what goes around comes around.....

Nothing new on the Nicole and Jon front. She says they're getting along, so I don't know. I just pray for them.

Darrell... glad you're ok over there! They sensationalized the storm as usual, but that's still a lot of snow. We have about 5" on the ground.

I'm not looking forward to next week when we have those below zero temps hanging around. That sucks! But each day is one day closer to spring. I noticed it's light earlier in the mornings now. And it's real nice to still have daylight at 5:30pm!

Mike.... thanks!

So today is one year ago that I had my first chemo treatment. Remember it like it was this morning. Nuff said. Don't want to go there.

Well its lunch time so I'm going to go eat some leftover pizza. You all have a great day!!

Hi everyone.

Beautiful day here. It feels cold on the back porch but when I was at Walmart this afternoon it felt like summer. Bright sunshine out, but still gonna be cold tonight. Eh you can't have it all.

Darrell bathe and brush the pup regularly, and give him coconut oil. That will keep the dander down and he can stay with the family he's been devoted to his whole life.

Sandy I wanted pizza last night, but I couldn't find any good deals. As much as I like it, I'm not paying 30 bucks for a pizza. Call Houston and put in a good word for your friend Marc.

Allan are you sure it's the trans making the whine? My car has a bad idler pulley that I swore was the trans, until I got under the hood and found out the noise was coming from the opposite side of the motor.

First night of work. Have no idea what's in store this week, but after this three I have four off, and I've been thinking about taking the next week off, just because I don't like being there. I have a little time I can burn that I'll lose if I don't use it soon.

Okay have a good night everyone.

Mornin all.

Nice quiet pleasant mornin goin out to feed the mules around 4. Not cold enough to stiffen up the mud, but still have a nasty patch of ice on the north side of the garage.

Allan, thanks but you shouldn't have. we would be just fine with 70's until.... Always I guess.

Mike, I hope your workday goes as fast as my sleep time. If it does, it'll be over before you know it.

Sandy, I hope John and Nicole can work things out. Seems some of these kids secretly enjoy all this drama. I don't get it. Tor hasn't been very outgoing recently. She's been putting in a bunch of hours, she doesn't seem to mind. She did go over to a guys house last night to hang out while he was fixing his ATV. He may come race this weekend if he gets it ready. Sometimes I wonder if she should be more social, but I have to remember that todays generation is way different than ours.

Jeff, there is a reason Old Audi's are so cheap. It's because people can't afford to fix them. they loose more resale value than most. Jaguars are real bad too for resale. I'd say look elsewhere.

Darrell, hope you got all the whitestuff moved to where you need it. glad it wasn't as bad as the model predicted.

Have a day all.

Foggy as London agin today but still reasonable 30* out der. Just took out de trash and dint even need a coat.

Clint, well you're in luck. Got a notice from de post office that the plane carrying your present crashed so it's been damaged and undeliverable. Lucky you I guess.

WTH??? Gas prices here this mawnin are waaaaay up. We went from .66/L to .83/L overnight. That's like a hike of .64/US gallon. Any of you see any price jumps? This makes as much sense as wearing a parka in GA in July. I think big oil is trying to yank the puppet strings because they've been losing their fat **** cushion and can't live off the billions they rake in everyday to distribute to their CEOs. Rotten bastages.

Jeff, I'm with Clint. Even doing your own mtce Audi parts are pricey. Keep looking. Some other imports are better choices but cars like Yota, Nissan, Subaru tend to keep higher than average resale value which doesn't help in your search. I'd love to sell you our Saturn but it's AT and I'm not really sure about the trans. Besides, the speedo is in km/hr

Gtg visit wit de boys. Enjoy your day.

Allan, The gas prices here are up about 30 cents over the last week. I hear that it may go to $5.00 a gallon in the near future, by more than one source.

Hi everyone.

Dan I hope you are teasing Allan about the gas prices. Though in today's world, who knows.

Jamesbo I give each dog a spoonful at each meal. It isn't very much but it has helped with their itching and scratching. Coconut oil is solid below something like 75*, maybe I should melt it so I can give them a little more. If they see it in their food they won't eat it. My boy is 85 pounds and my girl is 73.

Perhaps everyone at the Awful house had new dentures and they didn't know how to speak with a mouth full of teeth. The manager at the one by me yells out welcome to Waffle House without ever turning around. I said, it doesn't seem genuine if you're not even looking at them.

So my neighbor's Datsun has a couple bad spots in the clear coat on the roof. He's going to have the roof repainted, as well as both quarters, because it wouldn't look right to blend it in. I said, it will look like the car has been rear-ended. He thinks it will boost the value. I said, it will lessen it because it won't be original. The paint on this car is immaculate, save for these two spots. But when it comes back and looks like hell I won't say I told you so.

Well off to work. Have a good evening everyone. One more day.

Evening everyone. The fridge arrived here today. It was a floor display model so it needed a good cleaning, but otherwise new. Got a good deal on it and it really makes the kitchen look better. The only issue I had was that it is taller than the one it replaced so I had to remove the cabinet above it. There is a soffit there so they only way to put the cabinet back is to remove the soffit. I think this might have started the "might as wells" with fixing up the kitchen. Cabinets are a white washed oak (so they look pinkish) and was planning on painting them white. See where this is going, lol. Anyone done this?

Mike - This has been a very difficult decision as my daughter's allergist/pediatrician/school nurse are all telling me he needs to go. I never heard of using Coconut oil to bathe a dog in to control dander. I will look into it and give it a try. Thanks!

Haven't heard anyone talk about a "Datsun" in a long time. Is it a 280Z? I used to like those when I was a kid.

Clint- yep pretty much got the snow where I need it. Supposed to get 2 more inches tonight and even more on Monday. Of course, they salted and sanded the snot out of the roads around here, what a mess.

Allan - the fridge is from the GE Profile line. It came pretty well rated and its much better than the base models they have. I bought a 5 year warranty too for $180, figured I would hedge my bets just in case.

Not sure why your gas prices went up so fast. Something going on in Canada? They are still dropping here. Down to 2.09 - 2.19 for a gallon of regular.

Jeff, overall the 98 1500 is not terrible in either the 2WD or 4WD. Weaknesses are fuel system, transmission and brakes. If I was looking at a used Dodge I'd suggest the 2003/2004 2WD. I looked it up in Consumer Reports index of vehicles and those 2 years are decent for that unit. The 4WD in 2004 is an excellent rated truck with little to no deficiencies noted. Ford F150 in the 2001-2004 also looks very good.

My other choice is a 93 Chevy short / ext cab Manual trans 3 speed with granny and overdrive 5.7 engine

Or a 1997 GMC also a short /ext cab also the 5.7 automatic.
The 97 is on the edge of affordability the Chevy isn't

Good morning everyone.

What a long night at work. We were going to weigh a 767. To do that everything has to come off the airplane. All the drink carts, the pillows, blankets, toilet paper, soap, everything. Then all the fuel has to come off. That was our downfall. We had trouble sumping the center tank and turned the whole thing over. We did get the scales set up. Too bad, too. I've never done this so I wanted to see how it goes.

Darrell you don't bathe him with the coconut oil, you put it in his food. Though I don't think it would hurt anything. Aren't there people shampoos with coconut in them?

Clint enough with the long message.

Jeff my feeling about a pickup is it has to be a long bed or what's the point? I like extended cabs and four doors. We have 4 door Fords at work and we routinely stuff 8 or 9 people in them.

Looks like it's going to be a nice day here. Windy. Hope everyone enjoys their Friday.

Morning has broken. Well at least that's what Cat Stevens used to say. Still looks like night has fallen.

Drove the Saturn yesterday. Took it to the car wash to detoxify it from all the road crud. Then I drove it for the rest of the day and got it dirty again. Oh well. Gotta clean out the garage today and get all the bottles/cans to the recycle center. That'll pay for another few car washes.

Clint, you ok?

Mike, WTH does an airplane need to be weighed? Aren't those specs provided by Boeing? Seems like a make work project for what?

Jeff if the 93 isn't affordable don't waste your time or the sellers. 97 Is a decent unit, but reported as troublesome in braking and some fuel issues. It's a recommended truck though. 93 Chev or GMC is not recommended and has a lot of reported deficiencies on average.

Jim, never ever used paint that left lines up here. Must be different formulation?

Well, the crack of dawn just showed. Enjoy your day.
