People always need to fly, even when the economy is tanking. Curiosity gets the better of me now. Is there a rated life span on the turbine blades (other than bird strikes and runway junk)? Do old blades get inspected and recertified or do they just get melted down for new product? Maybe dumb questions but you got me curious now.

Lol!

Afternoon all! Sunny and humid here. In the 80's with storms forcasted for Cruisin nights of course. Then a cool down to the 70's again. Too much like fall already....

Had a great time at the Olds show yesterday in Alliance. Beautiful day beautiful cars!! Not as many as last year though. There were 14 Cutli in my class. Chickipoo, with Teepos clone, took first of course. I got second and Carl got third. Nice little gas pump trophies this year instead of the usual plaque. I think these are much better!! It was fun. Teepo git a nice trophy from Pops on Saturday too. Winning weekend!

Heading to the Riverfront tonight. its gonna be a muggy night over there!

I still have to get thank you cards for the people who did the benefit, and make the thank you poster for those I don't know who donated.

I decided to take the 1st off. Don't make much sense to come in here for 1 day. So much I need to do before surgery. Stuff I need to schlep downstairs out of the garage, stuff I need to put up there, gotta clean the walkers, gotta repot some plants, I want to vaccum all around the ceilings and floorboards. It will be a long time until I can do things after surgery. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm gonna shave my legs and cut my toenails! Guess I won't polish my toenails anymore this year. I have to take the polish off before surgery... gotta get to Goodwill and buy me some big button down shirts and old sweatpants. I don't know how long it will be until I can wear jeans and skorts since I'm not exactly sure where the incision will be.

So after all this is over I will be going to see Dr. Cha ching Banks again, I guess. Seems the CT scan of the pelvis showed a 'possible UPJ obstruction' in that right ureter tube again (I know that's what it feels like when it hurts) and evidently my bladder is collapsed. So... I foresee more surgery that I cant afford in my future!! Joy oh joy! It just keeps getting better!

Clint... I did not like that wolf spider pic! I'd hate to see just how big they get! I kill them all....

Boy its been quiet in here all day. Maybe cause of the up coming holiday? Brian has been bored. Clipped and filed his fingernails earlier. Boy if I'd try that, comments would be made about the noise of the clippers and the emery board! I cant even quietly scratch off a lottery ticket over here. Bet he's not gonna miss me, lol. He did say he'd water my potted plants in here while I'm off. I was gonna ask him anyhow.

Sent an email to the owner to let him know what's going on with me and he said he'd read it later and see what he could do to help me. I'd be happy to be able to keep my 19 days so I'd have them if I get sick and for follow up appointments and such so I won't be off pay.

Well I better get off here since its time to go home. Talk to you all later.

Hi everyone.

Running late tonight. Eh, it's Friday. It hasn't been a bad week but I like not being there.

Just heard Dollie Cole has died. She was Ed Cole's wife, Ed Cole was the father of the Corvair, also the small block Chevy, and I think was president of GM at one point, as well as Chevrolet and Cadillac. He died in a plane wreck some time in the 70s. Dollie was a nice lady, I never met her but know several people how have. One less link to old GM.

Allan all the blades in an engine wear eventually, the fan not as quickly as the turbine or possible other stages of compression. That's a lot of air, which holds dirt, and a lot of heat that are rushing past the blades constantly. Dan can tell us what the alloy is they're made of to be able to last so long. Maybe that's a trade secret.

I hate to say it but Delta is buying Airbus. I think the CEO gets a kickback from them. When he was CEO at Northworst they bought a lot of them, when Boeing was a better deal(and a better airplane). Airbus are a pain in the patooty to work on. His excuse is that the 777 is too expensive to operate. Hm, no one else who flies the 777 says that.

Okay gotta split. Have a good evening everyone. Tuesday is almost upon us.

RR engine build is fairly long but intensive

Nice shootin Jim!

Mike, I never flew on AB yet. But I can tell you that the stuff that United flies ( I think they're 737's?) are painfully crammed. They seem to want to put you in someone's lap with how close the seat are together. That probably doesn't affect the mtce issues though. I really like the Bombardier 700 series, they have the best seating and leg room for coach IMO.

Metallurgy report just in. 2 videos, one for airfoils and one on the production of a RR engine. Mike, was the 787 the plane you were referring to in place of the AB?

We do investment castings, using titanium alloys, primarily for their endurance and ability to withstand high temps in the compression/ignition area (I don't know the tech lingo here), which can hit 2000 degrees F. The vanes used in this part of the engine have internal passages for flowing air from the root (bottom) out through the trailing edge, to keeps temps manageable, otherwise even the Ti alloys would warp or even melt.

Well, Allan, I watched the first video, and.....we don't do it anything like that, and as camera's etc. are prohibited on our premises, we may never see how we do it. We had an employee with a dash mounted cam in his car, and he was quickly approached about it, which is weird, because we have very little outside security, and a very casual, I.E. normal parking lots. Must be camera's watching that we don't know about!!!

Good morning everyone.

Not a bad night at work, just got home a few minutes ago. Gonna sleep a little while then do car stuff this afternoon.

Allan we don't have 787s. We've been flying 777s for years and they've been the Queen of the fleet, until Mr. Airbus got in and now we have to buy A330's. Yuck. Funny, when the CEO was in charge of Northworst he loved the 747. Now suddenly they are too burdensome to maintain and they must go.

How's the Sonata?

Dan some years ago, speaking of 777s, one was on takeoff roll and a blade snapped in half, and it pretty much shelled the engine. Carnage. That plane sat out on the pad for days with crime tape around it.

Okay I'm hitting the sack. Hope everyone has a good day. It's beautiful here and just above 60. Unheard of for Georgia in August.

Good morning ....

Allan, i strained my back removing the race springs from my w30 and putting the stock ones back in. Had the car on the hoist..no tranny or motor...they came out okay, but when I cut the metal straps on the stock ones, the front end jumped and looked like it was about to fall of the hoist....I jumped back with the torch in my hand and must of arched my back the wrong way.

Moral of the story...replace springs with engine in car, or at least a little closer to the ground

Have a good day and stay safe!

Ted

Well, Alcoa likes to keep how we do things away from the eyes of competitors, plus the military/govt. aspect of things, though they are a smaller part of our business. When we show customers the place, it is very coordinated as to what will be on the floor when given a tour, and when the Toyo repair guy comes in to repair or troubleshoot one of our electric injection presses, their access in the dept. is limited, and an engineer will be there the entire time watching (and working with him) to keep an eye on him, and escort him to and from the press area, even using different routes into the department to limit what they can see. Sheets of plastic have been hung up around the machine so that "accidental pics can't be taken" of the surrounding equipment or processes.

Good morning all.

Got the worm until someone slips in and posts before I'm done typing.

Beautiful day, cool this morning. The steam coming off the lake always reminds me of some movie I saw once with Adrienne Barbeaux where pirates were hiding in the fog and killing everyone.

Ted how do you feel today?

Dan I didn't know you worked for Alcoa. There used to be a big Alcoa place outside Davenport, IA. Hm. Maybe I remember talking about this from before.

The guy is coming for the Rampside today. I've owned it for 10 years and I wish I would have done more with it. Eh, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It would make for a cool runaround truck, though. I've only been waiting on this guy for like three months.

Okay gonna hit the Awful house and then run a couple errands so I'm home for the guy. Happy Humpin' everyone.

Morning all!

Sun coming out now after a cloudy morning. Muggier than heck out there too. Just yucky.... temps in the 70's now.

We had awful storms come through last night around 8:00. We were in WalMart and the rain beating on the roof was sooooo loud! Lightening flashing everywhere. Lord!!! Lots of leaves and branches on the roads when we left there and drove home. And man was it just tropical feeling. The humidity is supposed to go away when the cold front gets here later today. Its been awful.

One of my geraniums out here at work was kind of leaning over this morning. I went out and kind of moved the soil up around the stem more to support it. I don't want it breaking off! I'll have to bring some potting soil in and add more to the pot.

Well one week from today is my surgery. I'm glad to be getting the cancer magnets off, but I'm scared of the pain I'm going to have for so long afterward, if that makes sense lol. I'm afraid of what I'm opening myself up to in the future. Seems I already have enough problems that keep popping up.... but I have to do it and it will be all good.

I don't know if I'll go to that Ravenna cruise tonight or not. By the time I get there it will be 6:30ish. It's going until 9:00. Of course its dark now at 8:10.

I heard someone say they read the Farmers Almanac and said we're supposed to be even colder here than last year and more snowier... that wouldn't surprise me. I'm not reading the almanac this year. I really do look for snow in October.

Steve will never make it through winter..... his heater is blasting and it has been all friggin week!!! My God the man cant possibly be cold! I told Brian that when I'm off, he can turn the AC up and then Steve won't get so cold that he has to turn on his heater. Bet he will anyhow! I sure hope I'm healed enough to be able to scrape snow and ice off of Tincanio this winter. These guys sure won't do a damned thing to help me. They're all about themselves....

Well I better do something, so you all have a good day!

Well the Rampside is gone. The guy got here a little before 1 and we swapped wheels and loaded it up. Now I have fistfuls of cash and an extra space on the driveway. I was already missing it yesterday but today didn't care in the least. Hope he has good luck with it.

Sandy I was at work the other night and went into the tool room, and the lady had a heater going! She said it really gets cold in there sometimes, something to do with the block walls. I just laughed.

While I was waiting for the guy to come I was messing with the wagon. I thought if I filled up the master cylinder and pumped the brakes a lot I could get -some- fluid to the back and have some brakes. Didn't work. Should be fun getting that guy off the trailer. I wonder if the parking brake works. That wouldn't be awkward.

Okay still have lots of daylight.

A Rampside is a Corvair pickup. Officially named the Corvair 95. It came as a van, station wagon, ramp side pickup and load side(a very bad misnomer) pickup. The Loadside was the same as the Rampside but didn't have a ramp. Very hard to load.

Mine was a 61, they were built 61-64. Bell Telephone used a fleet of them. They were 1 ton vehicles. But only 5 lug. Hm.

Anyway, there's your Corvair lesson for the day. I liked mine, but not enough to do anything with it. You can't tow with it, and even thought the bed is convenient it isn't very big, plus the raised portion over the motor(which is in the back just like the car) cuts down even further.

Good morning everyone.

Jamesbo, a Corvan. Very nice. Bring it on down, it would fit right in. So would that IH Travelall that's in front of it. By the way, the truck in the picture above is waaay more nicer than mine.

My sister was driving back from Chicago yesterday and crossed into Georgia about 430 in the afternoon. She said, I don't know what time to tell you that I'll be there. I said, well, you're almost two hours from Atlanta and then there's traffic. She made it to Stockbridge around 7. She stayed over and we're meeting at the Awful house in a few minutes.

Got some painting to do today. This afternoon my neighbor wants me to take a little friend of his for a ride in the big truck. I said, should I pick him up from school? He said nah, that might cause a commotion. Gee, I can't imagine it.

Clint did you get your computer straightened out?

Illumined welcome to the fold.

Okay time to get things moving. Hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin all.

Mike, yes. mostly. I was able to get back most of the data. The computer was actually ok, but there was a program I was working with at the time of the strike. I lost some service history, but nothing catastrophic.
Everything went quiet on the VC. Did I Miss something? Did you trade it for a Monza Spyder? I always liked those. Even tho that was not a good era for american cars. Kinda like the Cobra II.

Well there was another one we didn't know about Jamesbo. And I'm not sure where he keeps all these.

Got more rain last night. I dumped out over an inch in the gauge yesterday afternoon. I sure hope we don't have another September like last year.

Have a day all.

Morning all.

Ted, glad to hear you're on the mend. I also did a number on my lower back Tuesday picking rocks for 3 hours. Lower back muscles were protesting a lot that night and yesterday.

Mike, cach is good. Have a great visit with your sister. The Sonata is back to looking like new. Body shop did a great job and followed through on any glitches I found after. Yesterday I cleaned the upholstery with Leather cleaner/conditioner. Can't believe how long that took, but the results are really impressive. I didn't think they were that dirty!

Jim, good luck, mastering the new putter. Apparently it needs to be trained, or ya gotta get whiteys wit eyes.

Clint, glad you were able to recover most of the data. I'm guessing you don't back up your work puter end of each day? Couple more days till the big trip. You gonna knock off early on Friday and start out early?

John, it's Thorsday buddy. All is well in the world of de Gods. Got all your paonting done? It's catching, yesterday I ended up doing the new deck with Thompsons water shield. That stuff works really well as evidenced by the water beading off it this morn. I probably need to do another coat tho because it supposed to have 48 hours dry time. Freya's waiting in the wings to welcome everyone to de weekend.

Morning all!

Sun and clouds this morning but no humidity and nice cool temps in the 60's!!! Of course Steve is freezing and heater is blasting....

Went to Ravenna last night. The east end of town was packed! I've never seen so many cars. I thought we were going to be cruising up and down main street, but everyone was backed in along side the road like at a show. The parking lots were all full along the street. I couldn't walk up the hill to see all the cars. People were everywhere! I lost Pam somewhere in the crowds when I stopped to talk to someone. It was something to see though. A few miles of parked classic cars. Did the heart good!! I left about 8:15. It was already dark.

So Nicole called me while I was there and told me that Larry finally discovered my purse on the camera! Guess he went ballistic! Asked her who put it up there and said he has to see who goes in HIS house 24 hours a day and the cameras are not to be covered, yadda yadda. She said he started watching the recordings too. I dont know how far back they save. I got the silent treatment when I got home. He was sitting in his chair and didn't look my way or say a word! He went to bed shortly after I got home and he was up and gone this morning early before I got up. Hes biting his tongue right now.... dying to lite into me. He won't be able to go long without saying something!!

So I went out this morning and got my purse out of the garbage can where he threw it last night, and I looked up at the camera and flipped it off and mouthed F You to it! Watch that, gestapo!!

Marc might end up taking me to the clinic for surgery lol. I'm sure I'm going to make the gestapo very angry..... I don't really care! I'm really tired of being dictated to after all these years. I felt so free knowing that camera couldn't see me. Now I'm just mad again. I need to get me a tall pole with a base and put black poster board on it so I can set it in front of that camera every time I walk out there. I hate to be trying to climb those little steps to cover it up after my surgery, but he doesn't need to be seeing me struggling to go outside or whatever. Gotta do what I gotta do I guess.

Jamesbo.... where's Citcapp???

Nicole and Jon are heading to Hotlanta this weekend to some convention thing. I'd like to go to the Walker Stalker con there in October. "Thank you for riding the plane train". I loved that!!

Well I better do something.... I'll let you know when the gestapo gets me! Have a great day all.

The wagon. Well, yesterday while I was waiting on the guy for the Rampside I tried to get away with not doing maintenance by filling the master and pumping the brakes to get the back brakes to work. One of the cylinders has a leak. I didn't get anywhere. After that, I thought I'd change the front tire since it won't hold air for more than a few minutes. Now, it's still up on the trailer two months after I bought it, and I was using a little jack and it slipped out from under the frame and tore up the slim chrome piece that runs along the rocker. Don't know if I can bend it back into shape or not. Not one of my brighter moments.

I'm kind of surprised no one posted to my question in the wagon forum about the heavy duty wheels. I thought at least I'd get flack over saying I wanted to keep my 14" wheels. Maybe the maintenance manual has a section about wheels.

Got some painting of my own to do today. Just got home with the paint.

Sandy that's awesome about the purse. What's it been up there, like a month? Dragon Con is what Nicole is going to. It's a big cos-play convention.

Gotta get busy.

Whelpt, we got 3 painters on board now... Jamesbo will make 4 when the Falcons win da' Superbowl... ;-)

Painted yesterday, then picked up better half from N.O. airport from Mom's. She had a nice trip.

Got all my trimming done at the Plantation... now the grass needs cutting again!
Glad you got the 'puter back up & running, Clint. And you got a new one, Jamesbo?

Mike, that's a cool concept, I guess (the 95). Jamesbo, are those 2 pictures of 2 different vehicles? That van doesn't appear to be a Corvair from the back. If they were unsafe at any speed, then perhaps Mr. Nader is happy to see them parked with a tree growing out of it.

Thor's smiling, Allan... good day today! Will actually be able to tie up some loose ends around here. Mountains in our very near future~! I'm not going to ask Jamesbo whether he wants to get together, as he always has Supermodel issues around the big holidays ;-)

Mike sounds like a willing victim, however.... Scot, where are you?

Extra prayers this week, Sandy!

Talk soon, Oldsmobuddies.

Mornin all.

Sandy keep your chin up. Also maybe let Larry know if the cameras are hooked to the puter, the NSA could be watchin. Maybe that will change his mind.

Jamesbo. You are probably right. I'm waiting for him to tell us he has a Mercury Bobcat wagon Or a Pontiac T-37. Or even a Rotary Ford Courier.

Mike whatcha paintin?

John You're a rockstar if you got all the trimming done before it needed to be trimmed again. It's been so wet up here this year, I can hardly keep up. So far this year we are over(15.11") our total ave(14.3") for the year and we still have 4 months to go. And we are way above last year at this time. (the wife is really worrying about more flooding with how saturated everything is)

Allan, I don't back up as often as I should. But thats human nature right? Me and Pop are gonna try to hit the road mid afternoon and see if we can get out of dodge before rush hour on a holiday weekend. I assume it's gonna be busy on 76 and 80 until we get past Mcconaughey.

Have a day all.

Freyas watchin y'all. Yup, Anutter holiday weekend looming. Safe travels to all who'll be on the road battling for lane choice and safe speeds.

Clint, Hope the weather holds out and there's no potential for rain or slides. They are incredibly powerful and devastating when the ground gets too saturated and let's go. I don't envy you traveling on the long weekend.

Mike, hey if you do have a T37 that's the equivalent of the f85 so that's still cool. A Bobcat SW on the other hand would warant the parking lot of shame.

Jim, you headin to de mountains wit red dog?

Prolly going to be a quiet weekend. Not going much anywhere, maybe hit the boneyard and see what kinda specials they have. Usually something like a volume discount on long weekends. Anyone need anything?

Sandy, I'm not sure, I don't ride buses with the unwashed masses.

I think a cab is around 40 bucks

Well crap! They only want to spend a few hours in Senoia on Sunday. They fly out Sunday night I think she said. She really wanted to see it since they filmed the walking dead there and she wanted to go to the store and maybe meet my zombie Mike, lol.

Non zombie Mike.... how far are you from Hotlanta? Want to rent them one of your cars for a few hours? Stockbridge isn't that far from Senoia is it? I called the Senoia visitors center but no one answered. I left my cell number and asked about transportation but I don't look to get a call back. I know she'd love to go into that store.
