The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
We got the old trailer pretty much done. Took it and truck to a nearby campground for a trial run- did great- truck hardly knows it's there. Very tight w/ Buddy, wifey and I but usable. Rained like a SOB 12 hours straight- slept like a baby and no leaks!! Good time.
Look close and you can see our camper-dwarfed by big 5th wheel!!

Way too cool Greg! 👍 The camper looks great with the old truck. Glad she was water tight for ya. Glad ya got out and had some fun with it.
Just love the truck Greg. Camping sounds like fun, but I don't think I'd do it. I think this is the first time we've seen Mrs. Greg.
You're right Norm down to the roll up door. Not far, not for long, just to get up and stretch a little. We've just finished up so we'll be sitting the next two hours. And when I leave, Awful house.

Good morning guys,
It's gonna be a beautiful weekend here for August. Only 65° right now at 0845 and it's not supposed to get above 80°, with essentially no chance of rain. Looking at a carbon copy for tomorrow.
Gabe is supposed to have his last hockey Skills Day this afternoon at 3:30. I'd like to make it to that if I can get some chores done in time to go. Gonna have to get off my **** here in a second and get going.
Going to a very nice judged Show in Ste. Genevieve, MO tomorrow, which is about 45-miles directly south of me. The Show is held in conjunction with the town's annual Founders Festival. Ste. Genevieve, founded in 1735, is recognized by most historians as the oldest continous settlement west of the Mississippi. It's a very quaint little river town. The Show is put on by the Knights of Columbus and held on their grounds, which is a very nice setting for a show. I went 2-years ago and had a great time, but missed it last year due to weather. Here's a pic from 2-years ago.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Golf course & driving range closed. We did get a huge downpour very early morning hours. Had a couple large bowls of New England Style Clam Chowder & returned home. There are two of these Jack Reacher movies. Think I'll watch the 2nd one 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' this afternoon.
Greg - The camper turned out nice. I had one of the tiniest Coleman pop-up/fold-out campers you've ever seen back in the late 60's early 70's. I pulled it around everywhere w/ my 1968 VW bug - mostly each weekend working as a volunteer for SCCA events. I loved that thing.
Norm, both Jack Reacher movies are very good. There’s a TV series as well, and while it’s good, it’s different than the movies. Best to watch the movies first, then the series afterwards.
I wish those tiny Coleman pop-ups were still made - I could use one to pull behind the Jeep as its tow rating is only 2500 pounds. It’s hard to find a lightweight camper trailer that’s actually affordable. I don’t need a camper that costs more than the Jeep.
Mowed the grass this morning while it was only 100 degrees. The mower with the replacement 5hp engine is running great. Every time I use it I am amazed at how much better the Craftsman bagging system operates compared to the MTD.

An even more memorable trip was our last big family vacation the summer of 1974. Dad had just bought a new '74 Beetle that he was going to use as a commuter car to his teaching job and he put a trailer hitch on it. Now by this time, I was 14, my brother 11, and my Sister 8. We were headed to Eastern and Southeastern Tennessee to visit relatives us kids had never met. Can you just imagine a Beetle with a family of 5 in it, pulling a Coleman pop-up, with enough clothes and supplies stuffed in open space inside the pop-up, for us to camp for 2-weeks. Pulling it thru the Smokies no less. My Sister would often ride in the little cubby hole behind the rear seat. Getting it going wasn't such an issue, but getting it stopped going downhill was an adventure. The brakes on that new car were shot after that one trip! Could have definitely qualified as a Family Vacation episode.
Jamesbo This is one I did not cook. Smoke BBQ Harlingen,TX. I am great friends of the Pit Master and the manager. I help them years ago to get started. From a little shack on the side of future restaurant building Everywhere I went. Told everyone about the best BBQ and told them to say "the big guy from New York sent you there". Two weeks later I went back. They both hug me and thanked me. So many had come to eat there. And bringing their friends, All saying the big guy sent me. I bring different Italian foods to them, that knocks their sox off. I have introduce Hot Cherry Pepper to the RGV. Not the hottest peppers but the sweetest. Stuffed hot cherry peppers in mason jars. After they cure for 3 month or more the better. The pumpkin looking cherry peppers are called Rounds of Hungry. A little hot, but very as sweet. Bigger and easier to stuff.
The green is lots of parsley.

Slight chance of a rain shower this afternoon, better chance later tonight. All the rain has removed practice at the driving range & continues to be dodgy. Mowed the yard as all the rain has allowed the lawn to flourish quite quickly. Couldn't get to the back by the ditch since it's over its banks but that's fine. I think I'll head to the practice range & take my chances. I need accouterments for my salmon & vanilla ice cream for my chocolate malted.
Good afternoon guys, not so much for me!
Was headed to the Car Show in Ste. Genevieve this morning. No sooner had I gotten on the highway and heard a major pop in the rear end and an obvious jerk/wobble. I was very close to an exit and pulled off. By the time I got to the bottom of the exit ramp and stopped, there was smoke rolling out of the driver's side rear fender well. Nursed the car home on a back road. Got home and pulled the wheel on that side. Went to pull the hub, the axle came with it and 5 ball bearings, FUBAR, bearings shot, who knows how much other damage. Touching base with the leading StL Oldsmobile restoration expert, he told me if the bearings totally failed, the axle on that side is probably shot too! He said he's willing to work on my car, but will be out of town for about a week. He gave me the numbers of some local resources to source a driver's side axle. This sucks!

Managed to get one hour in at the driving range & picked up my accoutrements. I haven't looked at the temperatures, but I'm hoping this front which is moving through today/tonight will bring some relief. You can cut this air with a butter knife.
Chris, be aware there are 3 different O-Type axle shafts, so if you need a new shaft be sure to get the correct replacement. There’s the 67-69 standard 28 spline shaft with a sealed bearing on the shaft and oil seal pressed into the end of the axle tube, the similar Heavy Duty 31 spline axle shaft, and the 1970 28 spline shaft with an open bearing and the oil seal on the shaft between the bearing and retainer. I discovered these differences when I needed an axle shaft and ended up with one of each rearend.
Chris, I had 2 [ at the lake ]and Donny took one. Let me know if you want one Free Both are peg legs Mike Did you take one home also? [rear axles brakes to pumpkin]

Kenneth, great technical points to remember on getting the correct axle. Thank you!
Chris, I learned about the differences in the various O-Type rearends the hard way. My search for a replacement axle shaft resulted in a stockpile of rearends, none of which actually had the shaft I needed. I ended up getting a single axle shaft from Brian Trick and had to find a place to store all the spare rearends.
