Re Hollywood Squares:

People used to say my Mama looked a little like Rose Marie (she did actually) and it would **** her off to no end because she thought Rose Marie was a smartass on Hollywood Squares. Never mind she watched it religiously and howled at some of the responses. You'd see her sitting in her chair smirking, then shaking, the she'd let loose with a belly laugh. My Mama could also be a smartass when she was so inclined.

Mama also resembled Patricia Neal. She didn't mind that comparison, and Hud was one of her favorite movies along with the Waltons pilot The Homecoming.

I don't know what reminded me of this today. I remember them well. The cases were sort of tilted in[stacked at an angle] so they would not fall out. But they were open, I mean they were there for the taking.

I just finished watching Elinor Donahue on Star Treck "Metamorphosis" 1967

Remember her from 50-60's TV Show "Father knows Best" and later in movie with Julie Roberts, "Pretty Woman?"

The other night I was shocked to find out Arthur Boo Radley ["To Kill a Mocking Bird"-1962] was played by none other than a very young Robert Duvall.

The same Robert Duvall who in "Apocalypse Now"-1979 gave us that famous quote "I love the smell of Napham in the morning................smelled like Victory."

I was born in 1949 [no clementine jokes please]. I bought my first car in 1965- a beutiful 1959 oldsmobile dynamic 88 senic coupe-white with red interior. My dad told me I had to buy it instead of the 57 thunderbird that I had my eye on for the same price because I had to haul my brothers to work after school every day. I drove it the way it was for 2 years then took it to a mechanic in a small town that was recommended for hopping up cars. Bored out the motor and put a 3/4 isky cam in it and then my dad tried constantly to let him tune it up as it didn't sound right to him. Must have been that whump whump sound at the exhaust. Anyway I found that there was not a patrol car anywhere at that time that could catch it and had some fun then. I kept that car for years and finally the salt on the Iowa roads killed the body and frame but that was the best car that I have ever owned to this day and that is also why I am still going to buy another one and rebuild it. Enjoy your Olds to the max!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine woke up one morning and went down stairs where he saw his son watching this on TV.

They would play the national anthem with a pic of the flag or fighter jets flying around right just before they signed off and the test pattern came on with it's accompanying high pitched whine.
Really late after that went down and the screen was just white with static the ant races started.
Who said there were no video games in the 50's and 60's?

It was a rude wake up call when that stupid tone went off after falling asleep with the tube on...

Which reminds me - how long will people call the TV the "tube"?
I do not think any TVs are still made with CRTs! The "LCD"? The "panel"? Hmm..

We have come full circle. Our first TV had a 6" screen and half the time all we got was the test pattern. Now the manufactures make 6" and smaller screens (wrist watch size) and there is nothing on TV. Make me kind of miss the test pattern.

I'm a youngster by definition, a child of the eighties but i was blessed with a dad that let me grow up around a pair of 70 chevelle SS's, a 66 mustang GT, a 78 gto, a 69 442, a 70 cuda, and of course the old chevy van with a blown 350. Those days were spent waking up early to go help my old man do some body work or tune up the cars, while it was no where near the 60's thinking about it makes me think of a simpler time when if you wanted your car to be loud fast and unique you got dirty and killed a whole weekend doing it YOURSELF. I always ask my dad what it was like when he was growing up around homebuilt rods and true muscle cars. I can only imagine and be truley thankful that he grew up and shared with me his "old school" ways of fixing up a car yourself. That appreciation is making my olds project that much more special to me, and that much more sentimental when my kids wake up and start wrenching with me. People like my dad and all of you are keeping family memories and REAL cars on the road.

I grew up in the 60s, but my dad was not an Oldsmobile man, nor was he a GM man, but otherwise he was a pretty good guy. He was RCAF, and came back to Canada from Germany with a wife, baby (me) and a Mercedes (still trying to find out the model). After realizing that he was only rich by German standards (50s), he dumped the Mercedes, and drove a series of VW bugs. Got a red Rambler wagon in 62? (it was okay for your kid to play in the back while driving in those days), then a white 65 Fury I 4-door with blue interior (seatbelts, what seatbelts; oh, and apparently smoking in the car on long trips with your kids, with the windows up was okay too). Next up was a 69 Thunderbird with a 429, then a 76 Volvo (that I eventually got for free). These are the cars I grew up in.
Anyone else remember those smokey drives in the 60s? 70s too I guess.

I can remember being in a "nursery" at Ramstien AFB while my parents went out for the night. It was a refurbished Quanset Hut with two rows of bunk beds in the back half, a play area in the middle, and the attendant's desk near the front door. After "night time" whenever that was, the attendant would turn the lights down and sit at the desk reading and smoking. I can still remember the smell of the cigarette smoke and see the image of the attendant at the desk. My father's family car was a station wagon, I think a 1958 Ford and I can remember riding in the very back listening to the drone of the bias ply tires on the German blacktop as we drove home late in the evenings trying to fall back asleep. This was maybe 1962

Although my Father quit smoking when he was 80

As a small child I would sit in his lap as he blew smoke rings and I would stick my finger through them.

I guess after years of watching him, In High School, I could also blow perfect smoke rings that would gently descend, while slowly expanding and circle my dates [fill in the blank]

Had a full collection on Zippo's, smoked Lucky Strikes, rolled the up in my white "T" shirt lilke James Dean. jeans, white socks, black shoes. duck tail hair (lots of brill cream) a little dab will do you and some butch wax to hold the duck tail. Pants lowered and a narrow belt. When we went to the sock hops the jeans were replaced with a black pair of slacks the white socks stayed, white shirt and narrow black tie Just like Jake and Ellwood. By the way my last name is Ellood.
