Eye Problem

I had cataract surgery, in 2007. At that time they talked me into getting a special lens, called a Crystal lens, witch acts like your own eye. I was not covered by insurance, so I paid extra. I had wore glasses for 50years, and now I did not need them at first, than had to use over counter readers, which worked pretty good. About 6 weeks ago, came home from fishing, and putting my gear away, and all of a sudden, had trouble seeing. When to the emergency room, and while going. I told my wife, bet my implant came loose. I was correct. Fast forward, been to the special eye doctor, they said the p[art of your eye that holds the lens is gone. So to fix this they will have to put in a new type lens, but now will have to be sewed in. Does not sound fun, and also will be about another3 months before they can get to me. Anyone else have this type of eye surgery? Like to know how it went. I have to say, not being able to see well is a PITB.

I have a cornea transplant which comes from a donor eye, and it is sewn in. More complex than a cataract lens but kinda the same procedure, except the whole cornea is attached all the way around. I was put out so I missed the drama, sometimes they do it that way other times they give you a happy shot and do it while you are awake, but you won't care. Mine was done probably 20 years ago, and it was quite new at that time, so there might be a quicker, easier method today. I had a cataract removed and a lens replaced about 6 months ago on that eye and I had no ill effects other than I could see a lot better. I do have a hard lens and have had one for 30 + years before and then after the transplant, still do have one. My advice is talk to your Doc and if you feel uncomfortable talk to another one and get the best Info you can. If it is a case of losing your sight I would go for it. I did... Tedd

Thanks for the input. I belong to Kaiser, so staying with them, but was told she is very good, and I felt good talking to her, It just the long wait I don't like, they blame Covid for the back log. My wife had her shoulder replace, and they told her 3 to 4 months, and they got her in about 6 week wait. Yes she said I would be put out, and will take 3 to 4 hours, I told her I only have one kidney, and prostate problem, which make it hard for me to go more than 2 hours, without taking a leak, so I'm glad they will put me out. No fun getting old, I never had a thing wrong till I hit 70, now it is catching up to me. Went to start my 70 442,today would not start. Working on it with one eye is a real problem, I have to keep my bad eye close most the time, so not so blurry. Be glad when done. Also she says takes two specialist, that is another reason for the wait, trying to get them together.
