Octania (Chris Witt) was a real asset to the Oldsmobile community.

He had a wealth of knowledge that he shared freely.

When I started with Olds about 20 years ago, he was a great help to me.

Every time I log on here, i think of him.

He died trying to avoid hitting a dog......

I am deeply saddened to just hear of this! I obviously haven’t been on Olds sites (this one and ROP) in a while as life got in the way, and I missed this very sad news from over a year ago. Rest In Peace “Sir”.

Chris was a good man and I am glad to have had the privilege of having met Chris through ROP, and ClassicOldsmobile, which led to a few phone conversations and I am honored now to have his contact info still on my phone. My earliest impression of Octania was one that I still have a copy of from ROP (before it crashed and lost all old conversations), when a really silly eBay seller initially tried to sell a 68 convertible saffron 442 back in August of 2011, and made all kinds of crazy claims toward its W30 authenticity. Chris was one of many people on ROP that had a word about it and started a thread called “ ‘68 Survivor-seems legit “ and systematically and methodically ripped the seller apart, EBay statement by EBay statement - 13 of them! I printed the whole post and still have it because I ended up taking the chance and buying that car. Later, I contacted Chris about a tube that I would like to find (air cleaner to valve cover) and that started a cool friendship and a nod from him in later email conversation that this car must really be an original W30 as some unknown items the seller didn’t have a clue about (and neither did I) that the car had, one of which in Chris’s own words-“What, your car has the Uber=rare KA water pump pulley, not the PS pulley?”

Very cool man to have known, if only for a limited time and to “Rocketette” his wife, your husband has touched many of us in the Olds community.

That is a very accurate statement. I am sure there are hundreds of us that can testify to this.
