Cars in Japan

Just went on a 3 weeker to Japan for work. Cars over there are different, and the taxes and upkeep means most are gone by 15 years old. 50% of the stuff on the road is Toyota, with most of that being models I've never worked with, made there, for there. The rest of the stuff is mostly other Japanese manufacturers, like Honda and Suzuki and Nissan and Mazda.

Some American cars get imported. Saw some Corvettes, a jacked up 90s Suburban done in ghetto style, and some pickups.

I was shopping in Osu Kannon (part of Nagoya), and I hear this exhaust. I'm thinking, that sounds like old Detroit iron, and here rolls this Bandit Trans Am by me, so there is at least one Olds V-8 tooling around Japan.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. It's interesting learning about car culture in the rest of the world.

Hemmings had a nice article a while back about a young lady in Tokyo that had a very nice '71 Judge clone. It was a real GTO, originally green, but changed to orange when it was restored and all the "judge stuff"was added. It was a nice looking car. She had 17" wheels on it that looked like Pontiac rallys. One of the pics showed how it didn't quite fit in the small parking spaces they have! American muscle cars(& Harleys) have quite a following in Japan.

Parking spaces shrinking right along with cars. It's hard enough to park one of our cars here in the States. I can only imagine the problems one would have in Japan.

Wife's new ride made there. A GX, which I found out after she got it is basically just a 4 Runner in a tux/dress (depending on your take...) Well that and a V8 and full time 4WD. And as a huge plus, only takes premium fuel!!! HA!

I was reminded of this thread from 73-77 Olds, look and you will see what happens when a 75 Cutlass Salon hits head on with a Suzuki mini car in Okinawa. Accident pictures are on the first page.
