saw the article in one of the mags when they "found" the car, and were taking it for restoration...
Apparently the original owner either lost his taste for seeing his old car restored, or ran out of money having it done at a top notch place...
too bad, but likely somoene will ****** it up since it has history... wouldn't have thought craigslist would be where it would ge tthe most looks though... but it wound up here, so maybe they are doing osmething right.

wow!!!! I read about that car as well, very cool story. Hope he gets close to what he is asking for - great piece of history but small group of people willing to pay the extra for pedigree - I'm not one of those.

In the BIG picture I don't think that price is too far out of line. REAL period race cars with good paperwork are pricey. REAL period race cars with good paperwork that are proven winners and have the history that THIS car has are VERY PRICEY. This car is probably still $50K away from being finished but, when it is finished it is priceless. I think the days of million dollar Chevelles are gone, however, many drag cars with the proper credentials are trading hands upwards of $200K. I know of one for sale now and the least it will be sold for is $500K. Ask any Olds racer (serious Olds racer) and they will know this car and the importance of it in Oldsmobile drag race history.

I would say the price is not out of line as well....this WAS the Olds 442 that made everyone look and took a crown from the GTO. In my book this car is a major piece of Oldsmobile performance history. It won a National meet and everyone was shocked by the victory. The Olds rocket was back from being a boat anchor thanks to the Brainbeau Team. I was and always will be impressed and thankful this history was made.

Well I guess it's true, you learn something new everyday!
Embarrassed to say I've never heard of the car or the driver
Some Olds fan I am! Total ignorance on my part I guess...
So I take it that I stumbled upon something of Oldsmobile historic value without realizing it??
Glad that you all recognize the historical 442. Now I can try and learn more about it.
Like Rambow said, I wouldn't have expected to see something like this on Craigslist but here it is only 20-30 minutes from me

The car was written up in Jan 1967 Super Stock and Drag Illustrated. Only one other 66 ran as well, the Rund car out of Detroit (see Hi Perf. Cars Dec.66 and Feb.67). The Rund car is the only Olds NHRA stocker ever to get a color centerfold in a magazine.

No. The car ran in C/Stock and very few modifications were permitted. Headers, ignition, carb jetting, gears, narrow slicks, and traction bars or AirLift bags were about it.
Dig them bag-o-snakes headers!
