Welcome. There is no easy answer. Either the frame needs new metal welded in or it needs to be completely replaced. This is not uncommon with the boxed convertible frames. If there is a hole in one place, there's a good chance other areas are nearly rusted through also. Sorry.

It would also help to know what type of "71 conv" we're talking about. Cutlass? Delta 88? Ninety Eight?

just to be sure, show us what your describing

Post a picture of that hole. There are holes about that size around that area to allow access to the body mount bolts.

Yeh, that's not the hole I hoped you talked about. You may want to go along the frame poking with a sharp tool to see if there are more soft spots. What state are you in? There are frames out there if you need one.

If you can get it up on a lift and use that sharp tool, I think it's called an awl, all over under the car. Floors, frame, trunk floor, etc. before you get too far into it. Depends on your plans for it but it will be good to know how much rust there is.

Any A body convertible frame, Cutlass, Skylark, Chevelle, LeMans, from 1968-72 will interchange with yours. From looking at the pictures, I'd bet there are more holes to be found. I know of 2 convertible frames in or near Indianapolis that might work for you if you get to that point.
