'70 442 W30 - Front Coil Springs - New vs Original

I'm restoring the chassis of my '70 442 W30 and ordered some MOOG replacement coil springs to replace the very pitted originals. You can seen in the attached photo, the replacements don't have the ground end like the original and although they say on the documentation that they do replace the ground end style I'd be keen to hear if anyone has used these replacements and had any issues with the fit in the tower. As you can imagine, I'm not real keen to start assembly & then hit a major road block. Appreciate feedback from anyone who has been down this track already. Thanks.

interesting. From this old picture, it looks as if the Moog replacement springs I put in my car have bevel ground ends but the originals don't. Could just be the view of the original spring, though. either way, your Moog spring is definitely different than mine.

Yep, there is certainly a difference. My originals measure 15 1/2" long - so closer to your MOOG replacements. Won't surprise me if MOOG eliminated the bevel grinding to reduce the cost and I'm fine with that provided they fit & do the job ok. Thanks for your feedback.

The Moog replacements are 5569 heavy duty 442 springs. The originals are whatever soft spongy stuff GM used. Interestingly, the car sits at the same height with the new 5536s as it did with the original springs.

From the Moog spec catalog:
> 5536 442 small block - AC - heavy duty, 442 big block - no AC - heavy duty
> wire diameter = 0.690"
> load height = 11.000"
> load = 1984 pounds
> rate per inch = 488 pounds
> free height = 15.063"
