'70 442 Rear Sway Bar Shims

Hello All,
Just put new rear lower control arms on. What is the need for the shims for the sway bar, if the sway bar fit's snug (and square) to the arms...what am I missing?
Seems like everyone thinks you need the shims... what is their purpose?
Please advise.
Thanks in Advance!

Its sounds like you don't need them.

I didn't need them on my 71. Like you, it was square and snug.

The shims are simply to take up manufacturing tolerances so that you don't preload the lower control arms sideways if there is too much of a gap. The thing with tolerances are that they can go high or low. Sometimes you get lucky and everything fits without shims. Sometimes you need a lot of shims.

Know what U mean

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the input...today I deal in microns.
In the "Good Olds Days" we dealt in 1/32"'s (Is this a correct word or description) ?
I own a shop and was showing the guy's how to sharpen .04" (1mm) diameter drills with coolant thru holes...(Bosch Fuel Part's)
OBTW we go down to .02" with coolant thru solid carbide drill's also..
Can't even see what we did unless under 145-X's magnification....
When someone tells me it's close ....I have a tendency to question
So in closing the 1/32" shims are OK with ME !

Thank again as always,
