Deja Vu: rear coils for a 68 442 (moog k5409, cc501, others, shocks?)

Hi folks,

Everyone was extremely helpful when I threw up a thread about front coils a few months back, hence the deja vu, so I thought I'd try again with my rears. I was doing a front end rebuild and now that I have the front end back on the ground, the front sits where is should, but the rear is still much higher than stock, which is what I'm shooting for.

Car has a 455 block with cast iron heads and intake, AC, power brakes and steering, a TH-400, the original type-o rear end, and now a freshly rebuilt front end with Moog 5536 springs and KYB gas-a-just shocks.

I've done some research, and I wanted to see what other folks have used and liked. I think I've got it down to the Moog k5409 or CC501 (final install height with these is only a 1/2 inch apart 7.5" for 5409 and 8" for the cc501), not exactly sure what the trade offs would be, but I'd love some input. Was planning to go with KYB gas-a-just again unless someone can suggest a better alternative.

Any and all info, tips, and pointers are much appreciated! I'm just looking for a good firm ride at stock height. I'll post some pictures for everyone in the spring when the fenders are back on the car.

Thanks again

Oh, quick follow up question: do insulators go on the top and bottom, or just the top or rear coils?

They only go on top. The CC501 are cargo or station wagon springs and will raise the rear of your car.

Thanks, good to know, the moog application for the insulators lists the application as requiring two pairs, but I'm sure they'd be more than happy to sell me a second set!

Any input on the K5409? The Moog Problem Solver website lists it as being the correct spring for stock height in the rear, but most other websites list the spring as not being correct for this model/year.
