Since its Canadian, I assume you have the original build information. Does it happen to have the W36 option originally or was that added down the road?

I have never sent off for the build sheet since it was so original. The stripe was added witch I can tell by looking. The emblems on a factory stripe car set back further towards the edge of fender. They look good on these cars whether they had them from the factory or not. I have added a few through the years. These are painted on.

You might as well. Be a good selling tool. Contact GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Services at 1-888-467-6853. I think it costs $100 now, and worth every cent.

EDIT: Whoops, just noticed -- that number only works in Canada. Try 905-644-3387.

There have been people that have stated that when an Oshawa build car was ordered with the W36 stripe they did not move the emblems. I have yet to find any proof of this but it would be interesting to know if yours was originally ordered with it.

X2. That's why I asked. Really curious but since in the case Randy seems to be almost sure they aren't original so it won't really help. But I'm with him... original or not, I think they look nice.

Oh got docs from GM of canada and it was a original fender stripe car,was special ordered white, blue int and red fender stripe! Looks like canadian built cars with fender stripe didn't move emblems back. Thought I would share info. Thanks,Randy.

Randy,

Would you scan and post the GM of Canada Docs and post a pic of the cowl tag too? Feel free to black out the VIN. With so few documented 68-69's it's always interesting to see how they were ordered. The Oshawa cowl tags had a lot more info too

Wow, that might solve a long debate from about all this. Definitely please post documents if you can. Red, white, and blue combo... very unique and strange... especially for a Canadian car.

I've got my 68 442 on the market and I was looking around at what others were going for to get a fair price and it looks like this one popped up on Craigslist again. This time it was posted with the option code documentation. Don't see the W-36 stripe options added so again, doesn't look like the Canadian built cars had the stripes in a different place.

Hello I am the guy that has owned it twice. Sold it to the guy that has it on craigslist. I have copies of the docs on this car. There was a stripe option on Canadian built cars, they did not move the emblems. This car originally had a Red Stripe and is documented on docs. I do not have a way to scan, but when I get some time I will take a picts of it. I am in the middle of Drag Boat season and my business and have very little free time. Thank you for your interest,Randy

Per the docs, I think it came with the standard GT stripe and not the W-36 stripe.

Somewhat surprised on the color combo but kinda cool at the same time - makes for a nice selling point.

Great information and whenever you have time that would be great. As Diego pointed out, Red was one of the factory colors for the GT stripe and also one of the options. My car came with it originally in white. I wonder if your documentation is pointing to that instead of the W36 stripe. I feel like if it came with the W36 via the factory it should show up in the originally options selected in the documentation posted above.

per the documentation it appears:
this Canada produced 442 for US sale was white w/red "GT" stripes to match the red stripe F70-14 tires on SSI wheels (w/the blue bench seat interior)

what's with the claim of the original spare? what size/brand/style of tire is that & it's on a SSII wheel??

Here's a pic of my buddy's '68 with the original stripe, just below the trim, it runs from the front fender along the side up to the vinyl top under the quarter window.

It seems odd or rare that "only" ~2900 442s were built in CANADA for US sale, but that's at least 2900 cars with available docs!
