Thumbs up 1964 Jetstar 1 - 394 - 14,500 Orig. Miles

Yes ORIGINAL MILES.

California car its whole life. I had a friend that lived across the street from this house where the car was at. I had belonged to the olds club and owned a 66 delta 98 2 door and was down in San Diego and kept asking my friend, "Hey is that jetstar still in the yard across the street"? Because at one point, we could not even see the radio antennae any more. When I bought her 25 years ago, she had been sitting outside in the tall grass of San Diego, CA, where the owner of the car, the 18 year old son went off to the military and after many times knocking at the dads door to see if the car was available, only to be told, "When my son comes back from the service, he can talk to you". Well some 15 years later, the son comes back a major and is ready to talk about the car, we made a deal and it became mine. I put it on a trailer, as the tires, which appeared to be original had bad cracks in them, so we took it to the local tire shop in Orange County that we worked with on my 6 other vehicles. We waited in the waiting room, to hear, for us to come to the car. We were hoping for the best, expecting the worst, to hear, and SEE, TUBES in the tires. This was 25 years ago, I am no mechanic, in fact all my cars are worked on by specialists, I dont even change my own oil. To see tubes, I didn't put 2 x 2 together, but in fact they confirmed, these were the original tires from 1964 and they confirmed the then miles of 13,700 when I bought it were original miles.

That said, I have owned and still own a lot of cars, trucks, boats, etc. This baby was 1 of 2 classic olds I kept for half my life, me just turning 52. The car is all original, and YES it needs tender love and care, and I am just not ready to finish her and I am confident some in the olds community will be in love with her, as soon as I place this post.

I have invested over the years around $10,000 not including the cost of her, again not doing the work myself, you all know how that can add up. I have replaced the front end parts, Headlights, the fuel lines from tank to fuel pump and tank cleaned out, had the pump rebuilt, all original brakes and had the wheel cylinders replaced 5 years ago, as well as the exhaust system complete. The radiator was redone and the water pump a few years ago with new water hoses and belt. Had a new battery this year and tires, most of the time it just sits, and really needs loving. The paint is faded and the original patina that seems to get a lot of attention these days at the various car events I have taken her to like the pomona swap meet, enderle, balboa, gasoline alley, cars & coffee. Recently Barry from the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles came to the Cars & Coffee in Irvine and said, "Thank you for bringing her out, he had never seen one in person, only in magazines, and knew they were very rare. Was very impressed that it was in fact all original all parts there a complete car". She is covered with tire covers and is driven every month around the area. Yorba Linda, is a dry climate in southern california.

All #'s match.

I have been told that the interior is very nice too, all door panels still shiny and complete, dash is very nice and shiny, some small cracks just starting in the dash, some of the backs of the tops of the back seat, and the top of the passenger seat. In fact the drivers seat is perfect, not 1 tear. The bottoms of all the seats are not torn, just the backs on top. YES it is a great runner and does need interior and paint, window seals, you know button her up. She has 1 spot of rust on the right rear corner panel size of a quarter and that same panel has a small dent above the brake light that has been there since I have owned it. YES this is really a sweet find. The carpets are really nice, the tach works and the car is super smooth running, you don't even hear it.

Hagerty rated this car as a #2 @ $13,000. This car could be a #1 car very easily, don't forget this is true original miles.

Not to sound like a jerk, I'm really not. How does hagerty come up with a #2 value? I was under the impression a #2 value was for a car that is essentially a show car, meaning a cosmetically finished and highly detailed car. That being said, its still far from a #1. A 1 being reserved for a car that has been disassembled and imperfect parts that came from the factory are made perfect with thousands of hours put into a car that no sane person would risk putting on the road. It looks to me to be a perfect candidate to restore to a #2 but clearly needs all the areas it requires to make it a 2.

X2 just agreeing with deaddds, really nice complete car to restore. Just being an original 14K car, you would need to go thru a bunch of things to make it reliable and safe.

Hey guys

I read the Hagerty site and rated my car accordingly. Though from pics its easy to say its faded or needs this or that but almost all classics need what mine does and your rarely starting with a low miles calif car! I was told by my insurance guy as well that car is #2 for miles and condition of all original parts and "replacement value" insurance. Why do insurance and not really be covered? Try finding another one with under 50,000 miles with all complete. Would cost more than my asking price to find one comparable. I welcome everyone's opinions and welcome all realistic offers from serious buyers.
Thanks.
Have a great day.

Safe

I saw a comment about having to go completely through the car to make it safe well I've done almost everything that is necessary and I can tell you the car is super safe. If you read my description which is like 4 miles long you'll see that I've completely redone all the front end, fuel lines, exhaust system, water pump, hoses belts fuel pump radiator the brakes are original but have new wheel cylinders. The car stops on a nickel leaves 4 cents change. For someone to say its not safe is incorrect.

The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of a 1964 Jetstar I in #3 condition ("car show" but not showroom) at $9,900. In showroom condition, the value shown is about $15,000.

In #4 condition (runs and drives but needs complete restoration), the value is about $4,500.

Your car is better than #4 because it has a lot already going for it. The interior looks like it needs very little, and you've apparently taken care of the mechanicals at least to the point that it is safe to drive. Where the car falls down is in that it needs to be repainted, and it would need some body work to repair that rust you show in the one photo and whatever else there might be.

So it's better than #4 but not as good as #3. Taking the average of the values given for the two levels, the value of this car, at according to the OPCG, is in the $7,000 to $8,000 range. The low mileage certainly helps and would push the value towards the higher end. But, in the car, the car is what it is. It's still has rust. It still needs paint.

Guides

Old car guide
Hagerty
Gold book
So many guides.
Who is the real guide to trust?
While everyone here seems more interested in giving their opinions than actually wanting to buy it I find it interesting why everyone has to put their 2 cents in about the condition or what they feel it is worth if not interested in buying it and have never seen it. Oh well she will never be sold for $7-$8000! I've turned down several low ball offers recently when staring at $7800 cash last week.
My minimum price is $10,000 & not interested in EVER selling her for less. For all those telling me she is worth $7000-$8000 please send me information of others with 15,000 miles for $7-$8000.
LOL they are pretty hard to find! !

Wait a minute. Didn't you just say up above that you "welcome all opinions?" Now that you've gotten some, you're complaining about people "giving their opinions"? Give us a break.

I'm not telling you it's worth $7,000 to $8,000. I'm telling you what the Old Cars Price Guide says. Because, again, you said you "welcome all opinions." No one is saying you have to believe or go by any of them. Price the car anywhere you want. The market will tell you soon enough if it's priced appropriately.

opinions

Absolutely right I did say that.
Your all entitled to your nice and not so nice thoughts. Completely entitled to your price ideas.
Thanks to you all for even caring about my girl. Your right the market will answer if price is in line or not.
Thank you all.

I'd take her in a heartbeat for 10K if I had a place to put her!

Haven't been to the site in a while; been involved with a non-olds project that has taken all my spare time. I see I haven't missed much. Not to sound like a jerk...
