1972 Cutlass Supreme for Sale $8700 / offer

Car has been sold. Thanks!

Hello All,

I hate to do this but I'm afraid I'm going to have to sell my car. I've only had it for a little over a year and I don't think I've put 100 miles on it. I've got a lot of big plans for it but no time at this point in my life.

Details: 1972 Cutlass Supreme, 350 4bbl, auto trans. Factory bucket seat / column shift car. The engine and trans are original to the car and it has under 60,000 original miles. I haven't checked the rear axle. The transmission was completely rebuilt last year and has a full, nationwide warranty. The engine runs great and looks to be all original except for an electronic ignition and an Edelbrock carb and air cleaner. It runs very strong and has a complete dual exhaust installed. The car was brought up from Louisiana last year so it's really clean. Floors and trunk are solid and the body is very clean. I don't know how much bodywork has been done, if any, but it looks nice.

The interior appears to be all original and is in good shape. The front buckets show a little wear but aren't too bad. The carpet is nice except for large stains under both of the rear floor mats (maybe bleach or ?). The dash pad is slightly lifted near the center by the windshield. It’s from the southern heat, I’m sure. Not too noticeable though.

Options include:

- front disc brakes (they look factory to me)
- rear defrost (grid in glass, not blower)
- power drivers seat (forward and backward not currently working, I can see the drive cable rotating, haven't had time to look at it...will tilt if no weight is on seat)
- A/C (belt removed, not sure if it works but is all there)
- interior hood latch lock (cable broken at interior lever)

The wheels are later model chrome rallyes with brand new tires. Original AM radio powers up but does not produce sound. There is a very nice Alpine stereo installed under the dash and sounds great. 6x9 speakers in the rear and Custom Autosound kick panels with 5.5" speakers up front. Car is wired for amps...heavy power wire and pre-amp cables are run to the trunk.

I also have lots of parts I’ve been collecting for the car. These are available for the right price or I will sell them separately after the car sells. Some of the parts include:

- Center console, shifter, floor shift cable bracket for trans
- Floor shift speedo
- Floor shift steering column
- Bumper jack, rubber sleeve, lug wrench, spare tire holder etc…for trunk
- New a/c belt
- New trunk pad
- New under hood insulation
- Hood light
- Map light
- Trunk light
- Glove compartment light
- New car cover

As you can see, I had a lot of plans for this car. I'm into this for well over $10k. I realize I'm going to lose money on it. I had no plans of ever selling it but things have changed quickly. The car is located near Cleveland, OH, zip 44077.

Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks

Nice car.

If I were looking or in the position ... I'd definitely be looking at it hard.

Came really close to buying an almost exact twin to that before I was even old enough to drive (pre 1988).

To this day I wish we could have made a deal ... but he was simply asking too much under the particular circumstances.

That looks like a nice car for what your asking. If I had the money I would be all over it.

Good luck with the sale and let's hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Is there a way to edit the top level title in this thread? I edited the title to show the new price but the old price still shows in the list of "for sale" threads and on the email notifications.

Update: Got the new water pump on...went really well and no leaks! I went ahead and put on a new lower radiator hose (upper was recently replaced), a new bypass hose and a new heater hose from the water pump to the heater core. That seemed really weak and tore when I pulled it off of the water pump. Also got the chrome trim fastened to the dash...clips were still good...just loose. I hope to get a stereo in it sometime soon and will be listing it locally.

A little detailing under the hood, new air filter, and cut the air cleaner stud down.

Cleaning up that engine bay is on the list for sure. Good idea to cut down that stud. I had planned on buying a stock aircleaner for it one day.

Do you think it needs a new filter element or a whole new style of filter/housing? I was thinking of sticking a stock "350 rocket" decal on that chrome lid.

What do you think on plug wire color? I've got several available at my local store...black, gray and yellow. I tried red once and it didn't look good at all.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm getting a lot of little things taken care of, finally! I got the rear defogger working properly, got the cigar lighter working, finally adjusted the idle mixture screws and the fast idle, cut down that air cleaner stud and will soon have a complete stereo installed. Should make a big difference when I show it.

A new air filter, and a quick engine detail would go along way. Don't spend a lot of money. If your wires are good wipe them down with some silicone spray, same with all the rubber parts. Or you can spray it down with some Armor All. Don't invest a bunch of money in something your already giving away.

It's amazing what you find tucked away under the dashes of these cars:

Is this a factory option? Any idea where the correct mounting location should be?

Yes it is. It mounts to the lower dash to the left of the steering wheel. I have a parts car with this on it and I haven't removed it yet. I'll take some pics for you. Nice car btw.

That would be cool, thanks. I'll take a look for mounting holes...I'm sure it was properly mounted at some point.

The cable has come loose from connector at the end shown....any idea if that can be repaired rather than buying a new cable?

I found the old holes in the dash, I just need to get some screws for it. The cable doesn't look like it can be repaired. It will need a new one to be functional again.

Anybody have a guess on where this light green wire might go? It has a plastic connector on the end and fits on the top terminal of the blower switch...it just doesn't make any difference. I found it on the defogger switch and it doesn't go there for sure.

Here it is on the defogger switch:

I have updated my original post....many of the "issues" I originally mentioned have been taken care of. I changed a couple of the pictures too. Here are some additional pictures taken today: (please ignore the Buick floor mats!! They came with the car and I haven't had a chance to replace them, sorry!)

Well, I took a deposit on the car. The first person that looked at it bought it. I am very sad to let it go. I was able to get many of the little details taken care of and really enjoyed driving it last weekend. I will certainly buy another Cutlass when things in my life have settled down a bit.

I am going to offer the parts to the new owner and if he doesn't want them, I'll list them here. Thanks

I'm saddened you had to sell it and even more saddened that I couldn't buy it but happy for your sale.

The new owner didn't take the parts after all, so the console, shifter, floor shift steering column and floor shift speedo are for sale separately. I have posted them in the "parts for sale" section. Thanks

Beautiful car - probably how ours looked in its heyday. I hope the new owner will enjoy it for years to come.

Wow, that is it for sure, 100%! It made it's way from Cleveland to Toledo. Still looks nice and they are asking less that what I sold it for! Man, I swear to you I had the money last week too.....bought my wife a car with it and now have to sell our van to get more money. Man, this is really tempting. Thanks for the heads up!
