The car is definitely a looker. Right now I'm accepting offers. The car was passed down from my grandfather who bought it at a car show brand new. He only drove it in the summer months on the highway to Niagara Falls Canada. The car was never city driven and never driven in bad weather. The car is flawless in every way. I recently drove it to an auction in New York just to get a ball park figure of the value people would pay. The highest so far was $10,000. I'm looking to place the car in good hands because its a shame for a car this well taken care of to be used as simply a daily driver. I live in NYC and the car is in a temperature controlled garage in Rochester NY. I will not even attempt to drive this boat in New York City.

I will be upstate this weekend and will post some pictures that will do the car justice. I'm just not sure what to really ask for the car. I have had a very wide range of offers. The auction said the book value was roughly $5,000 to start, but said it should go for more. The same auction had a similar car, but 4 door in brown and was used to 60,000 miles without the chrome accents and pillow interior and went for the upper 8k.

80's b-bodies have a wide range of people who would be interested. It ranges from retirees to kids who love rap videos. That car's too pretty for a daily driver and needs too much care to keep that nice. That eliminates most buyers. The car isn't considered a performance car or a "cool" car so that eliminates many more buyers. You'll end up selling it to a collector, someone who has fond memories of those cars, or a kid that'll donk it. Depending on where you sell it you'll see any or all of them. What you want is to see them outbidding each other for it and that'll drive the price up high. But if the auction doesn't have enough of them in attendence then the price will stay around $4-5k.
At least in the northeast anyway.

What does this mean? Did someone actually offer you $10,000 for it, or did people just give you their opinion as to what it would get if it was put up for auction? If it was the former, take it back there and sell it for the $10K as that's a great price for one of these, even in showroom condition.

The A/C, cruise control... everything on the car works in brand new condition. The whole car is litterally in show room condition. I will take better pictures of the car this weekend.
I live in NYC, but have a house in Rochester NY where the car is stored.

I was bringing my other car for auction and I just took the Delta 88' for a spin to the auction. It was parked in the parking lot and everyone was asking if it was going to be up for auction. The auction appraiser actually wanted to see the car because of everyone talking about it. He stated that he has never seen this car in such great condition and a lot of the additions to the car had to be custom ordered though the dealership and may be the best combination of dealer extras this car could have gotten. He said this car could easily go for 10k at an auction. That same auction had a brown, 4 door in the 60k mile range that went for roughly 8,700; no offense to the owner, but wasnt much of a looker at all.

my Toronado, for example, 4 years ago had been on the market for over a year for $12k - very nice 1 owner car, pristine, loaded, 50k miles - I paid $10k - it's probably worth $8k now, and that's a 455 car (and it may not be worth that but I no longer care - it's never leaving me)
my 88 conv, similar condition, not as well optioned but a conv was a bit more and is worth a bit more but values have dropped
I watch 100s and 100s of 70s Olds, Cadillacs, Buicks & Pontiacs and 95% of what comes on eBay DOES NOT SELL
it's like the old joke where the lady walks into the butcher shop and questions the butcher "why is your chicken $4.99 a pound? It's only $3.99 a pound across the street." The butcher says "so go buy it across the street." to which she replies "they're out of it"
TIMING
You may have to sit like a spider - like we used to say in the car biz there's an *** for every seat, meaning everything sells eventually - just need that one person whose grandmother had one and is willing to pay to re-create those good times.

For what it's worth, which is likely to be nothing, the June 2010 issue of the Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of a 1985 Delta 88 Royale 4-door in #2 condition (showroom) at about $3,600 and in #1 condition (not driven, better than showroom) at about $5,200.
A 2-door Brougham is shown at $4,410 in #2 and $6,300 in #1.

Haha, that one is cooler than Pistello's Orange holiday.
I can see someone blowing 7-8 grand on this 2 door car. It definitely won't be me, but I could see it happening if it really is immaculate.

i bought a new Electra 225 demo in 1984,i believe the sticker on it was 14k.it was loaded out, even had a sunroof.
it took only a year for the paint to need redone.dealer was going to only paint just the hood and trunk under warranty,so i paid $400 for them to paint the whole car.
i don't see the comfrortron or sunroof on this car
