SOLD---I have for sale, a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass hardtop coupe. It is a Kentucky car which is highly original with only 72,000 miles. It has a smooth running 350 V8 engine with an automatic transmission. It comes with new coil springs and shocks front and rear, new brakes front and rear, and a new radiator. The carburetor has been rebuilt and it has a new gas tank. The car has the rare Super Stock I rims with new front tires and also an additional set of original steel wheels with hubcaps and new tires. The windshield is also new. It has an excellent unmodified interior with a new headliner. Being a Kentucky car, the floorboards and trunk floor are in great shape and have no rust issues. This car runs excellent and is smooth as silk going down the road---absolutely no squeaks or rattles. This is a turn-key car and everything works! I do have a hoist and would be happy to show any prospective buyers, the underside of the car.This Cutlass is an excellent candidate for restoration, but it can be used as a fun daily driver.

With due respects, this is not a Cutlass S. It's the base Cutlass. The Sport model has a different interior, exterior trim and is badged differently inside and out. Look on the cowl tag to the right of ST 71. The next information will likely say 33287. If it was a Cutlass S it would say 33687.

Wow, nice car. Strange how many of the base Cutlass models have A/C, even the F-85 models. Would think a buyer would move up to next trim level when ordering A/C, but guessing the expense & want for A/C superseded ordering the higher cost trim level. Air conditioning was an expensive option at the time. Oddly, the cost stayed relatively the same for decades until becoming standard on nearly every car built today.

I did not know that about the "S". Sixty-three years old and still learning. Made the correction on the ad. Thanks for the info.

The Cutlass did come with A/C, however, I did remove all the A/C components and have the evaporator delete cover installed on the firewall. Really cleaned up the engine compartment and removed a ton of weight in the process. I do have all the A /C components saved, in the event that someone would want to reinstall it.

Why? AC was an RPO for almost every car line. Get a base Cutlass for less money but still the nice options is smart.

Nice Olds-not sure of Color--what is it?? original? paint/body-any problems? dont see much-- would need AC reinstalled,no charge OK.would be for my grandson-what needed to be 100% reliable??

The paint code is 62 Bittersweet. The roof has been repainted as it originally had a vinyl roof---(beautiful Cutlass roofline should not be covered in vinyl) To restore the body, it would need the lower front fender panels and a lower left rear quarter panel (around the wheel well). This car came from Kentucky, so there are zero rust issues with the floorboards, the trunk pan nor the inner body construction. Recommend going with an aftermarket A/C system, utilizing R134 freon vs. the weight of the original A/C components and the cost of the R12 freon. However, all the original A/C components are included with the car. Also included with the car, are the color coded 14" steel wheels, poverty hubcaps and new tires. This is a turn key, daily driver where everything works---nothing is really needed to be 100% reliable. The only thing I could suggest is going with a front disc brake conversion, as it has drum brakes on the front. Rock bottom price is $8000.

thanks-surprised about needed body work--do those areas have visible rust,bubbles or what?doesnt show in pics-I dont want to do that much body/paint work-would be 4-6K.can you do a couple pics of the worst spots??I think I could just live with them. On the AC,could reinstall the original-buy a new compressor set for R134,and convert the original--why not?? dont mind the weight--

Just some advice to you to sell it faster and reduce the tire kicker traffic...Some shots of its metal cleanliness sells a car for sure, specially for the rust belters.

To a serious car guy like me the money shots are looking upward on a lift...frame, floors, lower fenders legs & lower quarters areas, door seams...you get the picture(pun intended). Same for inner trunk area and the metal dash where it meets the windshield and lower rear window metal package shelf areas.

These are the trouble spots. If all of this is near mint the car will sell fast IMO...
Shiny paint and nice interior door panels mean almost nothing to me verses the "meat" or should I say metal.

Those are from the 1970 SPECS booklet. If you need the option list for 1970 442, here is is.

Add applicable transportation fees ( I have a comparable for 72), state tax, any discounts that might be from local dealerships (guess is best) and you'll be pretty close.

Exactly my point. Just surprised to see many base models with convenience & luxury options normally seen in upgrade models.

Actually Anthony, the upgrade models don't include luxury options like PS, PB, AT, AC, PDL, PW, tinted glass, sport mirrors, console, SS wheels, AM/FM etc. either. That's what I was getting at. If you check out the B/C cars or even the E platforms you might be shocked to find that many of the options you'd think should be standard aren't.

My mistake. I should had written optioned in upgrade models like the Cutlass S, in comparison with the F-85 & base Cutlass. When looking over the dealer SPEC booklets for all the different cars, it is amazing how a buyer had to order everything for their new car, unlike today. Unfortunately, the sales brochure did not contain every available option, so if the dealer did not mention all the options while preparing an order, the buyer had no idea it was available. My brother would had ordered the W-27 axle cover on his new '71 442 if the dealer had mentioned it. Did not know it was available until 40-years later after reading a SPEC booklet online. Probably would had ordered the spoiler if dealer had mentioned it. Did not order W-25 hood over concerns with inclement weather and being daily driver.

Price drop to $7995. That's the rock bottom price. Meanwhile, I'll keep driving it until November when it will go into my storage facility for the winter. Decent GM A-bodies, that are in good condition, do not depreciate as time goes by.

Being in Texas, I would like to see under the car-frame, floor and trunk pans especially...If there's any need of replacement floor and or trunk pans, braces-and frame repair work 5k range....otherwise?

The underside is definitely rock solid. Living in Kentucky for the first 42 years of it's life and having only 72,000 miles certainly preserved it. (I've only had it for five years, but it was in storage every winter).
Springs, shocks and sway bars were done three years ago.

The cover is a A/C evaporator delete housing, which mounts to the firewall with the same bolt pattern as the evaporator housing. It allows you to bolt in and reuse the original blower motor and blower resistor. Definitely cleans up the engine compartment, while shedding a ton of A/C component weight. However, I do have every piece of the original A/C system that goes with the car when it's sold.
