1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 4 speed
Hello Everyone,
My newly finished 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 2 Door Coupe is available for sale. It is has gorgeous Viking blue exterior paint and a black bucket seat interior. It features the original factory 455 c.i.d. engine along with the correct W-30 carburetor, 'H' heads, 'OLDS' W-455 aluminum intake, distributor and the 'Rock-Crusher' Muncie M22 4 speed transmission, all of which have been completely restored to concourse level with numbers-matching engine and full frame-off restoration. It was originally purchased in North Carolina and it spent the first 45 years of its life with two total owners. I am the third and current owner and purchased it in 2013, then immediately invested a sizable amount of time and money in having it undergo a complete rotisserie restoration. This included stripping the body/frame down to bare metal and ensuring that it was built back to factory specifications. The original engine was also completely rebuilt as well. There are tons of receipts and information on the restoration. This car is an excellent example of an investment grade vehicle. Given the rarity and desirability, this one has nowhere to go but straight up in value over time.
This one has the original motor, but the transmission, heads, intake, carburetor, distributor, rear end are non-original, but all period correct and nicely restored. The red fender wells are nice reproductions.

That's funny, because I think it is integral to the design. Without it, it would look like a piece was missing. Looking at it from the back side is my favorite perspective and without the spoiler just doesn't have the same 'WOW' factor.
Appreciate the comments!

Thanks Bruce.
I should clear that up right now. It is NOT documented.
All the correct parts are there, but no documentation.
I have had several 'experts' look at the vehicle and they all agreed that it could be.
That is the best I have for documentation.
Sorry for leaving that out of the description.

Thanks for the compliments guys. It was a lot of work for one guy in his garage, but I built everything according to the assembly manual making sure I had all of the correct part numbers. The only things that are aftermarket are the inner fenders, front grilles, oil pressure sending unit and the gauge bezel. If anyone has an oil sender (part #6462137), I'd be very interested.
FYI, I have the original title, but nowhere does it indicate 'W-30'. The previous owner did not have any paperwork, but was dead serious about it being a W-30, as were a couple of local business folks who knew the car. All just hearsay though. I know not where to go to get definitive proof. Even the General Motors Heritage Center could not help. I have showed the car to James Kryta (Inline Tube) and have spoken with Steve Minore in detail, but nothing seems to be concrete enough except original documentation. Obviously the price is $100K+ if I had the paperwork.
It does have a few cool original options:
- power trunk
- working AM/FM stereo with 8-Track
- hood lock
- lighting package
- floor and trunk mats
- rear spoiler, which folks either love or hate it seems
- bumper guards
Also, it is a 4-speed car, which is a bit rare. It has a Harrison radiator and a w-30 water pump, which I didn't know was specific to the W-30 package. Even has an original coolant overflow reservoir; how cool is that?
Anyway, glad you all like it.

I cannot verify the car had a spoiler, but it did come with the purchase.
The engine's bottom end was rebuilt to 1970 standards according to the previous owner and it had E heads on it at the time. I found a set of H heads and rebuilt them. I also found the correct intake, carb and distributor; had them rebuilt and tuned while on the engine using an old Sun diagnostic machine they used to have at the dealerships back in the day.

How do you know it was originally sold in North Carolina? Reason I ask is, if there's any chance it was built or originally sold in Canada, GM Vintage Vehicle Services might be able to document it for you. A longshot, I know, but you've got to explore all possibilities!
PS -- Very cool car.

W-30s were only produced in Lansing Michigan and then exported into Canada when appropriate for Canadian Dealers / Customers. GM of Canada - George Zappora will have paperwork to document such cars and their options.
