Very slick looking W-31! Good luck with the sale. Any luck tracking down the ownersship history?

Is the JO trans a 100% guarantee or did that trans also make it in to some base Cutlass / F-85 cars?

JO code trans were W31 only in 69-70 model years and not available for other power teams unless option W31 was ordered. Also, most people do not know that a high stall converter was used from the factory 2,600-2,900, W30 s had 2,300-2,600 stall. These "special" converters were not available "over the counter" at your local Olds dealer. Why? I do not know. These converters were actually "rejects" from the Buick trans line.

If VIN is stamped on LH side of case and matches vehicle VIN I would go to the bank that is a legit W31 F-85. Do not refer to the "governor cover" which has the trans coded stamped in the cover. The covers are held in place by a snap ring and therefore can be removed.

There are several items done when a W31 option is ordered that is not listed or discussed in magazines or Olds literature. I know them all and no I will not reveal these items/parts.

Things like this need to be shared somehow. Otherwise when you die, so does the information...

So, is this car 'legit' based on those other unknown things?

Come on Dave, give it up. Who the heck are you saving it for if not for your Oldsmobuds?
Geeze, you can't take it with you. It's not like it's for W-30's.
Or are there some things hanging out on those that we don't know about?

The trans is a clue it is not absolute proof as the cover with the W-31 only code has no VIN and is removable.

Another clue would be the punched holes for the W-31 emblems and factory markings on the inside, if original fenders.

Did anyone on the forum end up buying this car? Thought I saw a post from the new owner but can't recall.
