56 Olds 88 Holiday 4 door

Hello,

Forgive me if I make any errors on describing the car as it was my father's. I lean more toward 60's muscle car era.

For sale 56 Olds 88 Holiday 4 door. My dad really loved this car out of all the ones he started collecting the past couple decades. I can take more pics.

Details:
It's got a newly rebuilt 342 rocket with about 5000 miles on it. Rebuilt transmission (possibly from a 54). New exhaust, battery, carb rebuild, electric wipers, new cloth interior, trunk carpet, fake vintage radio with speakers. Body very straight, original paint w/ minor bodywork done to front left fender. Good glass throughout. Headliner a little rough, some interior chrome with rust, little rust around base of window mouldings. Dash vinyl original but peeling back. Motor sounds amazing with glasspacks, and fast for a big car. Newer radials. Correct hubcaps I believe.

Located in Idaho. Will probably try ebaying it eventually, but thought I'd try here first.

Herb

I'd like to get $6k. Or possible trades? I like the 60's stuff a little better... Or a descent trailer.

I will try calling you later today. I wonder what is the difference between the "super" and the "holiday"?

This was covered on here once and from what I remember, The super had a different carburetor and air cleaner. It also came from the factory with dual exhaust.
Regular 88s and holidays were only available with dual exhaust by checking the box at the dealership.

Also, I believe one has a post in between the 2 side windows, and one does not.

88 was the B body with the 2 bbl carb (230 HP) engine.

Super 88 was the same car with minor trim changes and shared the 4 barrel (240 HP) version with the C body 98.

Holiday = hardtop = hardtop convertible = no posts. Holiday could have been an 88, S88, or 98.

Dual exhausts were part of the 240 HP package.

I did want to note that I forgot to mention - although the tranny was rebuilt, there is some kind of tranny fluid leak. I have not investigated this thouroughly - This car is really low... haven't had a jack handy yet to check out what the prob is.

Also, note that extra parts are included (in the back seat). I'll try to get a better inventory on that stuff

If it leaks, it is unlikely that the trans was rebuilt. It was probably replaced with a used one.

Steering wheel spoke is blocking most of the trans indicator, but to the left it looks like a P for park, rather than an N for neutral. That would be for the new Jetaway (PNDSLR) Hydra-Matic, that was standard, in S88 and 98.

88 used the Hydra-Matic (NDSLR) in '56.

They are '56, but they are the optional wheel covers, not hubcaps.

I haven't driven the car for awhile, but I believe this transmission does not have a park. But, the indicator does have the "P". Kind of confusing, as I am not used to these older automatic transmissions (especially the location of reverse!)

'54-'56 Hydra-Matic. '56 88 only.

'56-up Jetaway. Very different trans. It was used in the S 88 and 98.

If your VIN begins with 567 it's an 88. 568 makes it a Super 88.

Hydramatic was the better of the two.

My wife is interested in the beetle in the background.

I would rather have the Oldsmobile.

Ha. the bug is a nifty driver. Original paint '65 that shines good after I spent a day with rubbing compound on it.

The olds is amazing. It is huge. A head turner. My dad loved this car more than that Caddy I have in the avatar, more than his 58 tbird he sold -- these were all nicer cars (finsih wise) but he loved being able to piece this thing back together, original paint, etc... He passed away a few years back. We can't hang on to these things too long - I have my own musclecar addiction. That caddy was so nice I hated driving it. The olds is a good rig. I hate seeing it sit (while I could use the space).
