Its a rust bucket, parts car, notice on the last picture by the gas pedal the floor is gone ( for beginners). They do not make floor pans, trunk pans, braces etc.for the big cars for starters. Great ad though and thanks INDY for letting us know whats out there. Here in Dallas-maybe 2k and another $700 to haul it here.

jensenracing77 posted about this car a couple months ago; apparently the car was driveable to a local car show. Anyone curious about it could always PM him to ask about it.

Yep. That's it. Makes sense as it's in Terre Haute area (his neck-o-the-woods....)

We discussed this car about a month ago.

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-jrtstar1.html

The seller wanted $8K, which was about a factor of two too high.

Very cool. Worth taking a look and making an offer. Would be a long costly rehab, but if trim is there and one has the time, desire, skill and/or money would be a neat ride.

This car is located about 8 miles from me. Other than surface rust I did not see any rust through anyplace. I was not looking that hard though. If someone is interested in the car and want me to look at it let me know. I don't know the guy other than they day I seen him at the car show. Not sure if he is negotiable or not?

What appears to be silicone in the lower LH corner of the rear window suggests pinchweld rust.

There is no doubt there is going to be more rust than is obvious. I seen that picture after I posted this. I did not look that close but there were no obvious big rust holes anyplace. I looked under the car from the passenger side and did not see holes anywhere in the floors but again, I was not paying that much attention. I was just excited to see a 4 speed Jetstar I.

One thing not suggested in that thread, or here, is what it is worth strictly as a parts car. If you just HAVE to have a big Olds 4 speeder, 4K does not sound like that much money to pay for a parts car..not even sure 6K does. The shifter, clutch linkage, big car 4 speed console, longtail muncie trans with speedo drive plug, special heater diverter under the dash, the brake booster (unique to 4 speed cars with power assist, has a special bracket that moves it away from the firewall to alloq the clutch rod to pass through it), etc etc are ALL unobtanium these days. Not sure I recall if the driveshaft is unique. Then there are the special rims for those wheelcovers, which you could sell if you don't like them, to offset the money you spent.

Assuming the car for sale is too far gone, you could always find a nice, clean 65-66 Olds B body and swap the parts over. It is practically a bolt-in job...I know because I did it myself about 15 years ago, and as those who know me can attest, I have no special talent (did have to have a z bar bracket welded onto the driver's side frame rail).

I've own my factory 4 speed Jetstar for 12 years now. I can tell you that in that time, I have seen very few 4 speed big Oldses for sale at any price. You WILL have the only one on your block! Most people who see my car, the double take they do when/if they look inside the car, is priceless.

While I agree that you'll rarely see one of these, the reality is that either way, you'll have $20K into a car worth $15K. That's certainly never stopped me from undertaking such projects, but one needs to be fully aware of the economics and make an informed decision.

From the few photos, I don't think the car is too far gone, but I also don't think it's worth the seller's $8K asking price, either. As I said in the other thread, I'd say $4K is about what it's worth.

I agree 100%; but even with that math, that is only 5K in the hole, pretty small beans if you keep the car long enough and "amortize" the fun over a period of years. I paid too much for my own Jetstar 4 speeder, and if I should sell it at a loss all these years later, I will have no regrets.

Another thing to consider; if that car is reasonably reliable and safe to drive, one could theoretically enjoy it for exactly what it is. Even as it sits, it's surely a conversation starter.

Years ago I saw a 1964 '98 Sport Coupe, converted to 4 speed, for sale. I have no idea how it was done. It looked great, at least in the photos. Was black with a black interior; I think it was discussed here on CO a bit.

You couldn't prove it was not one of those super rare executive special order cars.
Of course, you can't prove it was without a good forger.

I was under the impression that floor and trunk pans from an Impala will work as they are both B bodies, and the Impala parts they make. I could be wrong though as I have never tried.

The 65-70 full size cars are more different than they are the same. Buick and Olds are the same, and Chevy and Pontiac are the same. Suspension and frames are different also in those years.

Not that big of a deal to make floor and trunk pans. they are hidden and don't have to be perfect for a driver.

It's a money pit but 10 years ago I would have gone to look at it.

Yeah. If the asking price were closer to $4K than the seller's $8K, I'd have been on the phone already.

'Cause I DEFINITELY need another project...

Thanks, Jensenracing. Don't go out of your way, but if you hear anything let me know. It's not a "must have", but I wouldn't mind trying to obtain it, if it is still mostly intact.

I'd be willing to bet 11-3/4 years ago it was also in much better shape.
