1971 442 Convertible for Sale
I wonder what the story is with this car.. First it was listed in Chicago two weeks ago and now it is MA. I had contacted the seller on the original post as I was interested in the car. However, when I asked questions about the reverse stripes (never heard of) and if the car had been started, he responded back he had a buyer. So it sounds like the car was sold and the new owner didn't like what he saw when he got it. Does anyone know about this car?

stay away from it, there is so much wrong from just pictures that I can only imagine what is wrong when seeing it in person. OK, maybe for $7,500 it would be worth it - if you wnat a project with more to do than the eye can see

What a turd. First, that is NOT original paint. Heck, look at the pinstripes around the edge of the wide stripes on the hood. What's wrong with this picture?
Also note the chip in the paint on the rear fender extension and the grey primer under it. That's not factory lacquer by any stretch of the imagination. Oh, and where are the factory side and trunk pinstripes for a 442?
Of course, the "numbers matching" Holley carb. More chips in the paint showing grey primer under it. Blue overspray on the underside of the hood isn't "original paint" either.

Funny - in the original add he said the factory reversed the stripes by accident on the early 71's, which is what I questioned in my email, as well as the side stripes. I used to live in Bellingham MA, which is where the 2nd ad is from - I would have liked to have seen it in person

I had a very bad experience with this seller. I think there is another post about "Joe Cunningham" and his '71 442 original low mileage car.
Follow the advice of the others in this post, specifically 442Fred and Stevengerard!
This guy is bad news! And specializes in "original, documented cars. I know of his Pace Car, His '72 442 U Code, and now his '71 442 convertible.
I think he's received enough endorsements on this site to stay away...lol.
Finally, he can't keep his name straight.

Twilight - thanks for sharing the other post I hadn't seen it before. I use to live in Bellingham MA and am just wondering who this guy is as it is a rather small town and I never came across him before. The next town over which is Hopedale, has a guy with a great collection, and you see is cars selling for over 100K, as they had unique options like the wrong color stripes, etc. which are all documented

Depends on the state. Some states still don't issue titles for cars over a certain age. This is perfectly legal. On the other hand, if the state in question DOES issue titles and the car doesn't have one, I agree with you completely.

Bringing it here to Delaware from out of state with no title would be a complete disaster
DMV is a pita

I'm curious, would Delaware be a problem if it was my own car registered to me in another state and I moved to Delaware?

I’ve lived here my whole life so not sure but I’ve bought and registered a lot of cars and if there is any marks or cross outs or anything unnormal on the title they will not accept it.
I’ve never tried to title a car without a title but I would not even try too long and drawn out fight to even try

If you have the previous state paperwork, you can get a tittle in DE. can be easy or a pain in the backside. I have titled lots of cars in DE. . I have titled cars from out of state with just a bill of sale. There are many variables to the process . If you have a specific car and paperwork , to talk about, I will help. Feel free to pm Jim
