Very cool seeing a post W-30 with A/C and all the options. Do you know if it was optioned this way from factory. I love unusual cars

The broadcast card shows the A/C, pwr seat, rear speaker and based on the originality of the car and the history as provided by previous owners, it seems that it may have been optioned this way as new.

It has other options too such as tinted glass, the night watch hood lock and lighting group, AM deluxe radio with rear speaker.

Post cars are supposed to be stripped down grandma cars or race cars.

The original fender has W-30 in crayon, just like most original fenders we have seen.

The search for the original owner is on : )

Hey Stefano, and anyone else that is interested, the option for tinted windows on Lansing built Cutlasses and 442s is called out on the Lansing Broadcast Card.

If you look at the photo of the Broadcast Card that Stefano provided, in the top row of boxes, between the Style box and the Body Number Box, you will see the "PLT. OPT 16" box. If the PLT. OPT 16 box is empty, the car was built with clear glass. A01 is the code for "tinted body glass", so if you see code A01 in the PLT. OPT 16 box, the car was built with complete tinted glass.

All Lansing Broadcast Card documented cars that I have seen with A/C designated on the card have also been tinted glass cars...which makes sense. Doesn't mean that tinted windows were mandatory with A/C, or that ALL A/C cars were ordered that way, I would suspect that the vast majority of them were though. Tinted glass was of course ordered on many non-AC Cutlasses and 442s as well. A nice option to have...especially in warmer climates!

Somebody is going to get a fantastic 1970 W30 here!

I thought tinted glass was mandatory with A/C?

It could very well be that tinted windows were mandatory with A/C, I just don't know for a fact that they were mandatory. I was merely pointing out what I have personally seen myself regarding that combination when examining Broadcast Cards...which, so far anyway, indicates that that was the case.

Question

Stefano, that is a beauty.....! You have the Holy Grail of 1970 442's!

However, that being said, I question just why ANYBODY in their right mind would want to sell such an original car, or trade it for a hardtop or convertible, just for the sake of having a 4 speed? ?
The TH400 is no slouch, especially with the Hurst Dual Gate!

As a previous owner of two '70 442's way back in the day, I had both a Post Coupe with W-25 hood, and a genuine W-30 Hardtop coupe.....and would like to go on record that the POST Coupe is FAR superior to the hardtop in handling and many other ways, even considering both had similar equipment (4 speed); however, the drum brakes of the post coupe were a real disappointment compared to the discs of the W-30!

And a plus side of the A/C and auto trans installed on a W-30 actually helps, as it should have the milder camshaft, rather than the 328 duration 4spd cam, which is a pia in the cold weather....I know!

Who ever said anything about me being "in the right mind"?

Nothing wrong with an automatic....I have a some, but my preference for a Muscle Car that I only drive on occasion is with a manual shifter.

As far as tinted glass is concerned, I have a 1970 F85 with AC and tinted glass. It had to be checked off as an option on the order form.

As for the question of why someone would order the "Post Coupe" loaded with luxury options, I have one reason. Smoking. (I know no one does this now or ever did)

My dad bought a 70 Cutlass W31 Post with a bench seat and a 4 speed and 3:42 gears. His reasoning for the Post was because being a smoker, he wanted the vent windows. The Bench seat was because he had 4 kids at the time. The 4 speed was to confuse the hell out of my mother (God rest her soul) who couldn't drive a stick worth a damn. I know because I spent my fair share of time in the passenger seat looking right at the other drivers in the middle of the intersection when she stalled it. The 3:42's were because (now don't laugh) he needed it to be economical because it was his only car.

I have to admit though learning how to drive a 4 speed on a W31 with 3:42 gears means that you can drive damn near any other manual trans!

Jim, therein truly is the logic behind that reasoning of the vent windows, reading your memo had it all come back to me. I was still smoking when I bought my 73 Chevelle, that being the first car I ever owned without vent windows. Man, did I hate not having them. I had that car the same time as my 65 Chevy, and in looking back it's no wonder that was the car I elected to take on the long trips. Makes perfect sense. By the time I bought nothing but Oldsmobiles, I had already quit smoking. Another good reason I guess.

Price

Is this car for sale or just for trade? I do not see a price listed. Did I miss it?

Non air cars with tinted glass are common; I have three 1970s with that configuration.

BTW, sharp color combo on this '70 Post W-Machine.

I have owned numerous cars with tinted glass & no a/c. My 1965 442 is so equipped.

Three of my current 1970 442s are non-A/C cars with tinted windows, and a good number of 68-72 Olds Cutlasses and 442s that I have owned in the past were similarly equipped. I would agree that this configuration was very common.

Stefano, I certainly didn't intend for my tinted window option to Lansing Broadcast Card connection to somewhat hijack your listing.

...but then again...any post traffic is good traffic.

Good luck with the sale. This is an outstanding car!

According to the 1970 salesman's price guide I have, published in September 1969, Air Conditioning (C60) did not require Tinted Glass, either AO1 Tinted Glass) or AO2 (Tinted Windshield). For what it's worth AC was a rather pricey (for then) $375.99.

Just seeing those 3 gauges on the left makes me want to install that 1/2 of a rally pac in mine! I had that in my 71 convertible but it's hands off on the car I have now, I'm resigned to keeping that giant gas gauge in it. Original rules.

My 64 F-85 post has "Soft Ray" which is all tinted glass not just the top of windshield. I think mine is real rare. Its like the new car tint.
