1984 Cutlass master cylinder/brake problem
My car has been sitting for almost a year.
I go outside get it started & start checking everything when I see that the master cylinder is empty in the front section. I know I have an leak somewhere in the brake system but does that mean it's somewhere in the front by the front section on the master cylinder being empty. I'm just trying to figure out where to start looking for the problem.

Start by putting brake fluid in the master cylinder and try pumping the brakes up (with power brakes do this with the engine running) If the brakes come back look underneath the car for leaks, check all of the hoses and around disc brake calipers and the drum brakes at the rear. You have a leak somewhere.
If the don't come back then you most likely have a shot master cylinder and the fluid is leaking out at the back of unit. Its a one step at a time thing.
After finding and fixing the problem it is best to drain and refill the entire system with new fluid. Changing all of the rubber hoses out is also a good idea. After all they are 26 years old

Thanks for the reply. I filled it up & now the problem has come back. I checked the calipers, wheel cylinders & the lines along the frame but I didnt find anything. If it is the MC leaking from the back, where should I look for the leaking fluid?

The fluid would have went into the power booster if there are no signs of it leaking anywhere throughout the front brake system. Take the bolts loose from the master cylinder and power booster and look there.
