Practical advise on setting a proportioning valve

System operation understood...my conversion to front disc from all drum includes a Summit Prop. valve.- mounted on the tub. Anyone done similar, how did you go about adjusting/setting the valve? did you do it on a wet road? on the grass? a couple people watching for the wheels to lock up? Is there a non driving ie: mechanical way to do it with a "tool"? or is it a matter of trial and error?
Thanks!

Make that "advice" in the subject line

Unfortunately, everything I've ever read is trial-and-error on dry, flat pavement. You can make an initial setting with a brake pressure gauge, but ultimately you need to go out and make a bunch of panic stops on a deserted stretch of road or parking lot.
