Installing Brake Calipers on 1968 Looking for Help

Looking for any advice tips on installing brake calipers in a 1968. These are the four piston ones. I have struggled both times I have had to deal with them and I would assume their has to be an easier way of accomplishing this. The trouble I gave is getting the pads spread out far enough to get the calipers back on without loosening any lines and then having to bleed again.

Is is there any tips/ tricks that I need to know? Any known tool that can aid in this procedure. I have not found anything that helps.

Thanks Tim

I would think you could accomplish the task by using 2 C-clamps (one on each side of the caliper) and the old pads as "push bars" to push the pistons back into the calipers.

I did find a tool this last time to push in the pistons but by the time I got the pads back in and tried to get it back on the rotor the pistons had made their way back out and would not stay pushed in.

Cracking open a bleeder screw at the caliper should help.

I recall using a socket between the pads to hold them apart and then sliding the caliper on. And while we are here, if single piston calipers do not use a spring in the piston, then why is one necessary on a four piston caliper?
