brake backing plates

brake backing plates
hello restoring my 72 cutlass -just took off the front drums and noticed the brake backing plate is rusted and has some pin-holes starting.
I assume I need to replace them? any help greatly appreciated. Last time I looked at drum brakes I was much younger and don't remember much about them.
