68 442 chrome and trim

Hey guys, I’m having my 68 442 re painted so all the chrome and trim are off of the car. I’d like to clean the parts up and much as possible. My first question is about the two chrome grills in the hood. I’ve seen some variations on other cars the way they are painted. Originally, was the Black only down on the horizontal surface inside the grill or also on the sides? And what kind of paint should I use? —Billy

I used Krylon Satin Black to paint mine.

I’m going to repaint my 68 442 headlight bezels. Can I use that same krylon on that? Anyone know? —Billy

Krylon semi flat black and Krylon dull Aluminum for the silver. Paint the black first and then cut templates out of cardboard to place over the black before you paint the silver

Are you Tom from Koenig's friend?

You paint the black and lightly wet sand off the face of the chrome. Same idea for the silver on the trunk trim.

Thanks. Not Tom, my name is Billy Davis. I’m new to the 442 community. Just got my 442 in August 2018. —Billy

68 442: My head light plastic surrounds came out very good. I couldn’t find Krylon but found rustoleum aluminum to paint them. I’m cleaning up the bezels and soldering on new wires for one of the turn signals. I’ll post a pic when I’m done. —Billy
