Hello,
Anyone remove the side Fender Emblems?
My car is a Cutlass Supreme Convertible- thanks in advance

As others have noted, the emblems have integral studs that are held with self-tapping pal-nuts on the backside. Given the limited clearance between the backside of that part of the fender and the cowl, you usually need to unbolt the fender at the bottom and pull it outward to gain enough clearance to access these fasteners. I've not had much success simply removing the inner fenders.

In either case, if the car has seen any rust, expect collateral damage. The two bolts at the bottom of the fender thread into clip nuts on a flange at the bottom of the cowl, and any rust on the bolt threads causes the nut to break loose from the clip and simply spin. At that point your only option is to cut the head off the bolt and replace the rusted parts. Same problem with removing the inner fenders. The bolts along the wheel opening also thread into clip nuts that clip onto the edge of the plastic inner fender, and rust either causes the nut to break loose from the clip and spin or worse, the clip simply tears out part of the plastic inner fender edge.

A fair description of what can happen. Best to leave the emblems in place or be prepared for the inevitable as Joe outlined.

You can use barrel nuts for all the emblems. This allows you to pop the emblems off for waxing/cleaning.

A much better solution than the factory set up.

Your '68 Cutlass convertible is not a Supreme (342). It is an "S" (336) or (335).

This is correct. In the 1968 model year, the Cutlass Supreme was only offered in three body styles, the Holiday Coupe (2dr HT), the Holiday Sedan (4dr HT), and the Town Sedan (4dr with post).

Why do you want to remove them, is it to replace with better ones? Just my preference but I like original meaning leave emblems on.

I have a Cutlass S... How do I remove the "S" up by the quarter windows? Are they just bolted on from the back?

Original have a push clip that goes on easy but difficult to remove. Are you referring to ones on front fenders? Not much room when fenders are on vehicle. Good luck.

My emblems are OFFFF! Now, cn someone point me toward the "barrel nut" solution offered above? It might be handy to have the ability to remove again without the hassle. Most of the barrel nuts I've found are threaded, and threading the nunbers in with two threaded post on each number seems unlikely.
