Best way to repair this hidden nut
The nut on the passenger side firewall fender mount just spun when we were taking the car apart so we had to cut it. Is there a best way to fix this?

Is this on your 1971 Restoration? I've got a firewall from a 1971 Cutlass 4 door that I dismantled a few years ago. If you want I could cut off a portion that surrounds this that you could use as a patch panel. John

Yes, the 71. I was wondering if there was a best way. We had thought about cutting slots in three sides and bending it out to weld a nut on the back side. Was wondering if there is a better way or if anyone had ideas like your suggestion.

I would weld the proper size nut to the back of a fender washer, then hole saw out the broken nut, to the same size as the OD of the fender washer. Then weld the fender washer to the firewall.
Be sure to run a tap through the nut after all that welding, might distort the threads.

That won't work, the nut on the backside broke loose.

id fix what i had..to do it right you should drill the brkt off to get to it...once its out look around at a true value nuts and bolts..its called a stove bolt square nut..they have them up to 1/2 bolt size...
then weld it in there it will never spin with a couple good beads.
