71 Trunk trim

What is this metal made of? It looks like pot metal, with what on top, SS?
I want to polish it up but want to make sure what it is.
Anyone polished up one of these real nice ? How did you do it?
Thx.

I believe it's chromed pot metal. Try 0000 steel wool followed by chrome polish maybe??

Thx Scott...chrome eh. Wow, it looks like brushed steel. It's a very clean piece, but I guess the chrome has dulled? It doesn't look like traditional chrome at all. I've seen plenty of faded Chrome, neither one I have looks like that at all. I wonder what it looked like brand new. Even new it must not of been like traditional shiny chrome.

I might be wrong about the chrome, but pretty sure it's pot metal. I'm sure someone else will chime in soon.

I think it was chrome also but if I remember correct it had a brushed look to it. Those are VERY hard to find in nice condition. There was an NOS one a year or two ago on ebay and went for crazy money.

It would be nice to see a close up pic of what it's supposed to look like. I think I got an idea.

This might be a nice piece to go and have replated/ re chromed, etc. anyway. This one is about as nice a used oem one I've seen out there

Any really good pics out there anyone??
