Tailgate window setting up

Need some advice. Just fitted replacement used parts for the electric tailgate window on my 65 Vista. When I bought the car the only thing there was the glass. Its now all fitted and working but with one issue, the glass gets to about 2 inches from the top then stops, every time. Initially thought it was a motor getting hot but the window will go down OK and back up to the point it stops. Cant see any restrictions but cant get my head round why its doing it. Any help and advice gratefully received. Not sure if my buddy has set it up correctly as cant find any info on set up.

Can you tell if the gear has reached it's limit or stopping point?

I'm not convinced that the side channels are in the right way, there was nothing there at all other than a window. Really need to see decent pics of the set up as cant really tell from the workshop manual drawings. My buddy is taking it out again later this week and try to figure it. The runner on the side of the glass is far too tight as it gets to the top of the side channel.

If the motor isn't mounted to the gear in the proper spot, then it will run out of teeth. There is a post on this forum addressing this problem. Search around.

One other thought I had is did you try extending the window with the tail gate down or slightly opened? This would tell you if it was the gate or car track issue.

Yeah I have tried it with tailgate slightly open and it stops in the same place, so guessing issue is in tailgate

Sounds like the motor is sunning out the window gear too soon.

I'm suspecting that, has anyone got a pic of motor/gear with the window fully up so I can see how many teeth are left exposed.

Check the window channel for rust/rot. This is the horizontal item the window is set/glued into. I have run into this a few times with the vista's. If rust/rot gets into the channel and expands it , even a little, it will stop the travel to the top. basiclly hits the upper frame. Very narrow.
