I have '66 98 convertible. Left it with the top down to be detailed. Have had the car 3 months, top has worked flawlessly. The car wash people call me right away, saying they can't get the top to work correctly. I tell them the switch on the dash moves side to side, not back to front. They call later and say it's done. I go to get it and the top is stuck part of the way up. No sound when you move the switch. Power windows work fine. One of the girls at the car wash says they thought I meant to move the top side to side. I left it in the detail bay and took the keys with me. Ideas? Suggestions? Hard time believing this is a coincidence.

bypass the switch and run power right to the pump to get it home or to the shop where it can be fixed right.

Not sure if it's a reversal of the leads or if one lead is for up and one for down.
To be safe try hot to one lead first
then the other,
then hot to one and gnd to other
