On my 66 big cars the fisher body manual shows a process of loosening the fenders to get at the door hinge bolts.

My hinges need to be bushed since the doors are sagging. Do you think I can get away with loosening the fenders and repair the hinges without damaging the paint?

Or do I just bite the bullet and remove bumper, hood and fenders..?

It's my experience that when you try to fiddle, you end up making more work for yourself than if you just bit the bullet. The factory manuals were written by people with experience.

Nope pull the fenders and save yourself some grief.

can you support the door, and rebush the hinges with them still bolted in place? Its a bit of a pita, but sure beats taking half the car apart. (I did in on a 2nd gen camaro this way)

I think I tried the in place approach many years ago, but it didn't get me where I wanted to go in terms of alignment and ease of door closing
