How do you mask the seal when you paint an air cleaner? I have seen them just painted over But the paint flakes off. Not good

Ya should never paint the seal.
I usually just pull the old seal out and replace it with a new one. Masking for me would be too tedious.
Does the underside really need paint? If its in good shape, not rusty whose gonna see it.

I wiped the seal with lacquer thinner on mine. then used 1/2 inch tape to mask it off. The edges i pushed in with a flat blade screw driver and some trimming with a razor blade to the tape

thanks for the answers guys. Previous owner bead blasted the air cleaner, its bare naked!!!! I will look for a new seal
