I' m looking at a 71 Cutlass convertible 442 clone. I asked to see the trim tag. The only numbers I can read look like 62 for the paint code. The car is Viking Blue. The seller is telling me he's not sure if the color was changed!!! There one I never heard.....right! The convertible top is currently white. I know that A is white, B is black, C is blue, but I need help on D and E color convertible tops. The tab reads 'E.'


As usual, the seller knows nothing about whether the car is matching numbers. I'm not looking at the car as a clone. I am looking at the car as a Cutlass convertible with bucket seats and an automatic transmission with the shifter on the floor.

According to the decoder I use, paint code 62 for a '71 Oldsmobile is "bittersweet", which is a brownish-orange color you can see here:

As far as the top color, the decoder I have doesn't have a D or an E.

A = white
B = black
C = blue
F = sandalwood
G = green

Are you sure the E is not an F? It would seem to me that sandalwood, which I presume is a light brown/tan/beige color, as the color of the top would go well with a bittersweet-colored body and could have been the way the car came originally.
