1968 olds 442 hood hinges

1968 olds 442 hood hinges

Just recieved my hood hinges from being rebuilt and they came back sand blasted would anyone know what color the hood hinges came originally from the factory, i was told by one person grey another person black and also if it was a matte, semi gloss or gloss finish this is for a 1968 oldsmobile 442 convertible thanks again

They were not painted. Stock would be dark grey phospate coating, which is a matte finish with a "powdery" feel to it.

If you don't want to go the route of original on the finish, you can use "cast iron" color paint and they come out pretty close. I did that with both my '68 and '69. I removed the springs, cleaned them and painted them a color called "stainless steel". The appearance looks remarkably original, even though they aren't.
