70 W-30 Camshaft ??????
Hey guys, i have what is believed to be a 1970 W-30 cam. I am unsure if it is real or not. It has some white and orange markings on it that are pretty faded.., other then that the only thing i see is on the end of the camshaft it is stamped W-30 but looks like it was done by someone in its 30 plus years of travels and not by the factory. Can someone tell me how to verify if it is a true W cam?
Thanks!
Jay

I believe in 1970 the 455 camshaft for 442s and W30s w/AT had white stripes on them, part number 400165
Manual W30 had two green stripes part number 402569 (? seems to be same number for 68/69 as well)
orange stripes was for the 442 manual trans cars, part number 406768

To clarify, you're talking about an original 1966 car, correct? I did not know that the 66 cams were stamped. The 1970 cams were not, however.

(if the pics work) Here is 2 pics of the cam. You can see the W-30 in the one pic. Where the q-tips are, are where the orange marks are. Where the pencil is, is where the white mark is. Does this help any? Thanks again guys!

Really wouldn't worry too much about it, as modern computer designed grinds, are more advanced anyway. Call some larger cam company tech lines with your needs, and surely they can set you up with something more tailored to your project. My 455 has a Crane computer design, thats over .550" lift and 240 deg duration @ .050 lift. Don't think that exactly sounds like a factory stock grind, and a stock factory grind was the last thing on my mind, when doing the build.
