The bottom end is machined and ready to assemble, the heads need to have the porting finished and thats the hold up, I just have not wanted to spend the time on it, but it needs to get done.

That engine was built a few years back, it went into a 1970 442 convertible 3.23 gear, fully loaded car with air conditioning, turbo 400. I went with the owner to the track 1 time, he ran 12.06 @ 119 MPH with 275 drag radials in full street trim, 27.80 baro 2130 feet elevation. He was 70 plus years old and became sick and we never got a chance to dial the car in. The car will be for sale in the near future.

Although seeing the car was raced 1 time and we didn't run it across the scales I will just have to guess at the weight, and I can be corrected, I would say 4000 pounds sounds right.

119 mph @ 4000 pounds is 519 observed HP in a 27.80 barometer. Personally I prefer to rate HP from track performance.

Engine build:

Lightened CP pistons, 1.5 1.5 3.0
Eagle rods remachined
Production crank, indexed, stroke set 4.250, counter weights cut .500 total
236 @ .050 hyd roller on a 108
Ported production heads 294 CFM @ peak, 275 CFM @ valve lift 28 inches
Modified production oil pan
Harlan Sharpe rockers
Performer RPM intake
1000 CFM AED carb
ATI balancer

10 inch Coan converter
Turbo 475 strait cut
3.23 gear

Why did you have to cut the counterweights? How many slugs did it take to balance it after that?
Curious to know.

Curious to know.

It required no heavy metal. I took a few hundred grams out of the bob weight over the factory set up. I bull nosed the the leading edge of the counter weights, and cut a total .500 off the counter weights. I ended up drilling one small hole on each end of the crank to balance. I do the same thing to the Chevy's.

So you took .500 off the circumference of the counterweights and it still didn't need any heavy metal?
Next time show us a pic of the Olds crank you did, not a Chevy.
And aren't you the one that posted a pic of an "Olds" on a dyno and it was really a BBC? I see old habits die hard

"So you took .500 off the circumference of the counterweights and it still didn't need any heavy metal"

Correct

"And aren't you the one that posted a pic of an "Olds" on a dyno and it was really a BBC"

No...I think you have the wrong person. The picture I put up was an example of how the 455 Olds crank was done.

Correct Bullshyt.

No that was you, its on here somewhere. I'll see if I can find it. The Chevy crank pictured doesn't have .500 cut off of that either.

I don't believe for a minute that you could take .500 off the circumference of the counterweights of a 455 crank without adding slugs. What was the amount of the final bobweight?

That crank does have .500 total cut off the counterweights, maybe you don't understand what I mean by .500 total, that's .250 preside for a total of .500. We do the cranks and the balancing so I would no. I will look at the balance card for the Olds and let you know the bob weight. I will guess it was under 2150.

In the mean time: how do you dyno a BBC and say its a Olds? Keep looking

So the question to the forum, whats better, multiple deep drilled holes in the counter weights, or the counter weights cut and minimal drilled holes?

Neither one. If you had to take that much off you should’ve just thrown a couple of slugs in it and made it internally balanced instead.
