Aftermaket Oil Pans - Junk?

Need to repalce my badly dented 455 oil pan in a 72 442 vert. Aside from the drain plug being in the wrong location (on the "edge" of the sump rather than flat on the bottom) is there anything wrong with the 60.00 Chinesium pans available everywhere on the internet?

Pics of my trashed pan - I originally wasn't going to pull the engine (just did top of the motor in the car) but one thing lead to another

I can't address this specifically to your car, however, a friend put one on his Ford, and it took 3 tries before he found one that would bolt up without problems. The stampings are not that exact, and the bolt holes were misplaced. You might be better off "restoring" your original than to buy one that is going to give you trouble before you even get it fully bolted up.

Costpenn: Mine pan looked like on my 330.

I wouldn't buy one of those eBay pans. See if anybody is selling a stock oil pan on eBay or Craigslist.

I picked up a Moroso 20480 pan for $175 and a stock 4 quart for $100, both on eBay. Moroso is new, the 4 quart is clean. Not new, but looks like it.

I like the Moroso because the plug is on the back of the pan like on my Alero and the pan may be 7 quarts, but is only a inch deeper. Had it powder coated and it looks great on my 330

Why not just bang the dents out of that one? I did it on mine, and it looks pretty good.
You can't see it unless the car runs you over anyway...

MDcanic after you pound out the pan and stretch the metal from one end to the other, put a straight edge on the pan rails and see how straight they are. I understand the budget thing but that's asking for trouble..My 2 cents
