Looking for an adjustable rocker kit for my 69 455. Found the Mobdello SAR455 kit, but does anyone know of any others? Part number would be great help.

I have the pedestal rockers now and I'm assuming I need a kit with the studs?

yes you need studs the prw kit is only the rocker arms but the prw rockers are better than the comp cams they feature what they call rocker locks a set screw in the rocker nut which comp cams does not come with. i saw the prw site their prices is 135 for the rockers and get the rest from comp cams and you're set. i got everything through rocket racing when i got my heads done. i looked into it if you put your own kit together you save much more money the mondello kit is wayyyyyyy too much you save around 50 bucks

Appreciate the info. I found the Comp Cams 1442-KIT which comes with rockers, studs, guideplates, and pushrods. I had the heads milled .010 and added Mondello .080 head gaskets to lower compression (that may be a separate thread

I'd prefer not to get a kit with pushrods because I doubt they would be the correct length (which isn't even listed on the 1442-KIT).
What I'd like to do is just order the other parts and I agree Mondello is too pricey.

I'll check the site you gave me and list what I came up with so I can be sure. Thanks again.......

It's a 69 455 high compression motor with flat top pistons. Use the car for street cruising, not racing. I want to be able to use 93 octane.

oh gotcha i thought it would have had the big chamber heads yeah you need those gaskets some of those high comression big blocks had small block like chambers. how much compression im running 10.25 to 1 on 93

Harland Sharp #S50026A and Scorpion #SCP1089
are both quality bolt-on pedestal style adjustable roller rockers for Olds. No studs or drilling necessary.

the stuk kit from comp cams requires no drilling if i remember correctly. i would say the pedestal mount kit but adjusting with shims is harder than turning a wrench imo.

I checked the 2 pedestal types that Copper128 mentioned, but they are out of my price range. I'm confused on the stud spec. Seen both 3/8 and 7/16 but I need to check. I'm thinking I have 3/8 but not sure.

Comp Cam 1442-16 kit, comes with rockers and nuts. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-1442-16/

Comp Cam 1442-KIT comes with rockers, nuts, 3/8 studs, guideplates, and (unknown length pushrods. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-1442-KIT/

motor is stock build and I'm hoping to match stock specs as close as possible except make the rockers ajustable.

Does anyone know if the 3/8 stud is correct?
and...if the slot style (long) is correct?

I'm probably making this harder than it should be but I haven't done this before and want to get it right.
Appreciate the help.....

the slot will be long enough., you entioned you had the heads milled and are going with an .088 gasket do the math you milled the heads .010 and the head gaskets are roughly .066 taller than the original head gaskets so you will actually need slightly longer push id say .056 longer would put you at what your stock distance was roughly but if you're after adjustability what about adjustable pushrods of this is not a race motor

I'm leaning towards using Smith Brothers adjustable pushrods. Could either do that or change to adjustable rockers, or both if my Visa allows

My calculations were I added .080 (head gasket) and I lost -.010 (milled heads) =.,070 gain

I also have to factor in the old head gasket compressed thickness to account for what I actually increased by adding a thicker head gasket. The original gaskets were stock but I haven't measured them yet.

So....+.080 -.010 -(old head gasket thickness) = unknown yet

I read the Comp Cam instructions for the 1442-16 kit and towards the bottom under Oldsmobile it said some head milling is required. I was under the impression that these were bolt on kits...???

those old shim gaskets where betwee .018 and .022 so in the .050's i thought u said .088 head gaskets lol., they should be bolt on i think the milling is to make shure the mount are for the studs is flat since the guide plates mount underneath and you wouldn't want binding. i would call and ask why they need to be machined. when i bought mine i had my heads done at the same time but as far as special machining to make these parts work i dont recall being told they needed it but im shure he resufaced the pedestal mount area

That makes sense, but I'll call to be sure. I already have a big bag 'o parts and don't need anymore I looked up stock head gaskets and they are about .039 compressed. I'll measure , but I've roughly gained...

+.080...-.039...-.010= +.031 gain with the thicker head gaskets.

Have to check tomorrow, but it appears that +.031 has made my pushrods too short. Comp Cam says the the 5/16th pushrods in their 1442-KIT are 9.547" long. They also say that the pushrods are .046" longer than stock. According tom them a stock pushrod must be 9.501" long. I've read of several different "stock" lengths tho...

Do you know if a stock 69 motor uses the oil restricted pushrods?

I suspect they are thinner than .039 like you say. I'm going to pull a couple pushrods and measure them, then order adjustable ones. Really appreciate all your comments. Thank you...Steve

When you use guide plates, you need to have harden push rods.

Also, the best way to ensure reliability and CORRECT geometry is to order ONE adjustable pushrod, install the rocker arms and check the travel of the rocker on the top of the valve stem...while ensuring the rocker arm is not at a travel limit (keep it mostly parallel to the rocker pad surface). Once you have the correct geometry, measure the pushrod and order hardened rods of that length. Then you can use the adjustable rockers to fine tune the geometry.

I'm tired so I'm having a hard time putting this into words...Gene can help I'm sure
