Wink Need Fast advice on a 455 purchase

Hello All,
Its been awhile since I have been on here lost my password and lost this site as well. But since I am back I have a really important question that needs help with and need a good answer before wednesday night. I have the ability to purchase a 70's model oldsmobile 455. It was a motor for a boat and the guy took it out and took it apart. It has the "j" heads and he told me its a complete engine, I am not going to tell exactly what the price he quoted me was but it was under a 100dollars. I have always wanted a 455 to stick in my two door 88. This motor is apart and will have to be rebuilt. I just need to know if its a good investment? I know the early 70's models were full of hp and tourqe. He states that the motor is a 77 but they quit making 455 in 76 didnt they? if it is a 75-76 455 what type of tourqe do those have? And also is the heads marked "j" mean the low-compression heads? I have read from a couple of diferent people that "j" heads are the ones you want, and others say to stay away from the "j"heads. Sorry to make this so long but I have to decide to buy or not to buy by wed. Please help me. Thanks Michael

The crankshaft is worth $150/250, the block is worth $150/250. So is it worth less than $100? People aren't exactly tripping over these engines anymore. Well, most people aren't, I am down to about 30 engines. I don't go after them like I use to but if I come across one cheap I snag them up. If you don't grab it someone esle will. Ken

The J on the heads stand for JUNK.....Im serious.....the block and crank are ok and the engine is most likely a 1976 or 1975.....yes its worth the 100 bucks.
