Hot Air Tubes

I am trying to determine if I need to connect the hot air tubes to my carburetor. Hopefully I am using the correct term for this. It is located on the right side of the engine by the carburetor. There is two bolts holding the tubes(@) to the intake manifold. One of tubes is broken off and the other one is missing. I would like to remove the plate and either fix or eliminate the tubing. I do not know if having these tubes connected will affect the performance of the engine. I a little apprehensive on trying to remove the bolts in fear they might break off in the manifold. My engine is a 72 455.Any suggestions would be appreciated

The tubes help warm the choke spring.

You can block them off if you don't use your choke, or buy another set here.

choke stove - a complete PITA

luckily I now have an electric choke (edelbrock story here but I had an issue with the gasket leaking, thought it was exhaust manifold @ 1st so strong under load

gasket material lasted a day

finally made a gasket out of a shim made from a brake pad - a slice

been great ever since
