oldsmobile 394 vaccum nippe under intake

while surfing ebay, i came across some pictures of old 394 starfire intakes with a vacuum nipple under the intake.. just curious as to what this was for if anyone knows.. Its in the most secret of hidden spots that one would never even know its there unless you were looking for it.. Anyone know what this was for. On my 64 starfire, i dont recall a vac line coming out from under the intake. ..
thanks. or is this exhaust for the heat riser?

It is the air intake for the automatic choke . The choke pulls air from a tube that goes thru the heat riser . The nipple is simply an inlet for this air
Nothing is ever connected to it .

Yes , and wait till you drop something in there and you try to retrieve it . Especially if it's non-magnetic !
